I get an error when I attempt to Create System Repair Disk in Windows 7 as follows:
Step 1: Press the Start button on your keyboard (the one that bears the Microsoft logo) or click the Start button from the bottom left hand corner of the screen.
Step 2: In the search box type in System Repair.
Step 3: Select Create a System Repair disk
Step 4: Take a blank DVD and put in the burning drive (DVD writer). You could also use a CD, just make sure it is large enough to store the System Repair Disc.
Step 5: Select the burning drive from the dropdown menu.
Step 6: Click Create disc.
A dialog appears immediately with the title "Create a system repair disc". It says
System repair disc could not be created
The parameter is incorrect. (0x8007057)
I verfied that the drivers on my Sony DVD RW drive are the most current, and I have no problems burning disks from other programs. I have tried using both CD-R and DVD-R media with the same result, but in fact the error appears so fast I don't think the drive is even accessed. There is nothing written to the event log.
Please help.

Also been caught by this error and could create a system image or system repair disk. Just as a last ditch effort I unmounted my encrypted partion (I use TrueCrypt to keep my company data safe) and so far it has bow at least allowed me to create a repair disk. I'm now going to try the backup without the encrypted drive mounted. I'll let you know if that succeeds. Not sure if the is the root cause of anyone else's issues but thought I'd post my findings...

Worked for me unmounted TrueCrypt volume and everything ran fine
I found another forum that suggested closing all programs that link to the cloud (e.g., DropBox, BoxCryptor, etc.). I did, and the disk was created easily... it finally worked!!

I am new here, replying to "all" I guess, not a specific poster, not sure how to just make a general comment.
I have Windows 7 and get the same message, System repair disc could not be created (tried with CD-R).
I am new at computer tech. What I gather from reading the above is that the repair disc is helpful (or required) to make use of the system image backup. However, both of these are features of the OS, so if back ups are done without using the Windows utilities, would a repair disc still be needed?
Someone had helped me by making a backup of my system using Clonezilla and a second hard drive (the process was way over my head). I tested it and was able to boot from the back-up HD. I then bought CDs intending to create a system repair disc. I was thinking I'd need that disc to be able to continue using my original HD if there were a major problem.
I thought I should post here just in case making a cloned hard drive could replace the system image and repair disc for other posters here who could not create a disc.
