I get an error when I attempt to Create System Repair Disk in Windows 7 as follows:

Step 1: Press the Start button on your keyboard (the one that bears the Microsoft logo) or click the Start button from the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

Step 2: In the search box type in System Repair.

Step 3: Select Create a System Repair disk

Step 4: Take a blank DVD and put in the burning drive (DVD writer). You could also use a CD, just make sure it is large enough to store the System Repair Disc.

Step 5: Select the burning drive from the dropdown menu.

Step 6: Click Create disc.

A dialog appears immediately with the title "Create a system repair disc". It says

System repair disc could not be created

The parameter is incorrect. (0x8007057)

I verfied that the drivers on my Sony DVD RW drive are the most current, and I have no problems burning disks from other programs. I have tried using both CD-R and DVD-R media with the same result, but in fact the error appears so fast I don't think the drive is even accessed. There is nothing written to the event log.

Please help.

Hi Folks,

Also been caught by this error and could create a system image or system repair disk. Just as a last ditch effort I unmounted my encrypted partion (I use TrueCrypt to keep my company data safe) and so far it has bow at least allowed me to create a repair disk. I'm now going to try the backup without the encrypted drive mounted. I'll let you know if that succeeds. Not sure if the is the root cause of anyone else's issues but thought I'd post my findings...

    I am getting this error also...on two different Toshiba A505 laptops.  Please inform me why this is a problem for Toshiba.  IT IS YOUR PROGRAM that is giving the error!

    Cody, you may be confusing "recovery disk" with "repair disk."

    The system manufacturer handles the "RECOVERY DISK SET."  The REPAIR DISK is a bootable system disk created by Windows, from the backup and restore control panel.  It is necessary in order to restore a system image that has been saved on an external drive.  The repair disk is an additional disk to the recovery set.

    Like many other people, the issue is that when I execute this app, I get the following error:

    "System repair disk could not be created.

    The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057)"

    This bootable disk is needed in order to restore an image backup that I have created using Windows Backup and Restore, in Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

    I amgetting the same issue here.  Win7, 64-bit.  Sony DVD Writer  Error "The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057)" after following the same procedure as InnovativeOne above.

    I'll try on other machines too

    Hi Cody C, Thank you very much for your response.

    In this case I don't really have a system manufacturer (ala Dell or HP) because this is a system I built myself. And to be clear, I am ultimately running the program "recdisc.exe" that ships with Windows 7 (and is installed in my case in the \Windows\System32 directory).

    Are you suggesting that what I am doing (Creating a System Repair Disc) is not supported by Microsoft?
