I get an error when I attempt to Create System Repair Disk in Windows 7 as follows:

Step 1: Press the Start button on your keyboard (the one that bears the Microsoft logo) or click the Start button from the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

Step 2: In the search box type in System Repair.

Step 3: Select Create a System Repair disk

Step 4: Take a blank DVD and put in the burning drive (DVD writer). You could also use a CD, just make sure it is large enough to store the System Repair Disc.

Step 5: Select the burning drive from the dropdown menu.

Step 6: Click Create disc.

A dialog appears immediately with the title "Create a system repair disc". It says

System repair disc could not be created

The parameter is incorrect. (0x8007057)

I verfied that the drivers on my Sony DVD RW drive are the most current, and I have no problems burning disks from other programs. I have tried using both CD-R and DVD-R media with the same result, but in fact the error appears so fast I don't think the drive is even accessed. There is nothing written to the event log.

Please help.

Hi Folks,

Also been caught by this error and could create a system image or system repair disk. Just as a last ditch effort I unmounted my encrypted partion (I use TrueCrypt to keep my company data safe) and so far it has bow at least allowed me to create a repair disk. I'm now going to try the backup without the encrypted drive mounted. I'll let you know if that succeeds. Not sure if the is the root cause of anyone else's issues but thought I'd post my findings...

    I FIXED IT.

    I got this problem on my Windows 7 64-bit.

    I had to create a C:\Recovery\WindowsRE. Then Windows asked to insert Installation Disk and it could complete the repair disk creation.

    After many requests by MS to install W10. I regret to my bones having done this. After a while I decided to return to W7, because MS stated "no changes will be made to your files or programs used". To the contrary:

    • my internet program was changed to the MS program without asking
    • my email program was changed & many stored emails were gone,
    • my Aldfear genealogy database was reduced so I am losing a lot of data. Fortunately I had a copy on my old XP machine.

    So, I'm very "grateful" to MS for messing-up my system.

    Now, I want to make a system repair disk and of course run into the same problem as mentioned by hundreds in not more users. I run scf/  : the result "no deviations found". Big deal, but the repair disk can still NOT be made.

    Should I go back to W10? NO NEVER. LINEX might be a good option. Delete MS from this world.

    Now MS has me between a rock and a hard place. This month's black Tuesday patches are reputed to cause a BSOD on some systems. The workaround is to boot from a recovery disk and delete a file. However, I can't make a recovery disk. If the BSOD occurs, I seem to have no option at all from Microsoft.

    I guess I can make a Ubuntu disk and boot from that to remove the file.

    I wonder if Microsoft runs their business on Windows.

    Wonder no longer, it has been reported that Microsoft actually uses Linux on many of it's servers... if that helps.

    As far as this thread, the "solution" listed as an answer is neither solution nor acceptable answer. I presume then if I am not running Truecrypt and if removing all external disks doesn't work, then there is no longer a way to burn a system repair disk in Windows 7? Is this part of the master plan to get the whole world using that invasive data collection tool they call Windows 10?

    Hi Brandy,

    Where do we find the option to set a drive offline? I went to the location you are talking about, but there are no options to set a drive as, "offline". The only thing even close to it (but opposite) was to make my extra hard drive, "active".
