One Month Battery Life MS Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000

I purchased this mouse a few months ago, and use it daily.  I'm very happy with the performance, but not with the battery life.

I am forced to replace the battery every month, almost to the day.

The mouse is used primarily with my desktop system, both in my web development work, and general usage.  I estimate my active use at 8 hours daily, but my systems are powered on all the time.

I have used new name brand alkaline batteries (Energizer, Duracell) and the last 2 months, Energizer Lithium batteries, with no difference.

It's impractical for me to turn the mouse on and off throughout the day.

The packaging claims up to 10 months of battery life - obviously I'm not getting anywhere near that.

I have the latest intellipoint drivers and otherwise my Win 7/64 system is up to date.

Do you have any ideas why I'm having this issue, and what I might be able to do about it?

Thanks in advance - as I said, I love the mouse, but the battery costs are eating me alive!

Have you tried contacting MS support about getting it exchanged/replaced? How about the place you bought it? I've had a few wireless mice, and their batteries have all lasted longer than a month, but only one has lasted as long as 10 months. I have a MS Natural Wireless Laser 6000 that they last 6 months, almost to the day. But the batteries in my Logitech V470 Bluetooth Notebook mouse last about 4 months, and it's turned off more than on.

I think you have a defective mouse, but I'm sure neither your merchant nor Microsoft would take my word for it :-)

    I have that mouse and it only gets worse with time.  I have to change my batteries about once a week now.  It used to last about a month, it never lasted anywhere close to 10 months.  Sorry I have no solution. 

    I can confirm that as in just over a year the battery life went from 2-3 weeks down to just 2-4 days. It really is a dire situation that Microsoft appear to avoid admitting there's a design fault with this product to cause this. Everyone can't be wrong!

    However I did find that the only solution is to ditch this mouse and just recently got a Dell Bluetooth Travel Mouse, made by Logitech. I've so far had it one and a half months and the original batteries are still going strong. This confirms what people told me about this mouse when I did my research.

    The new mouse (Logitech) is far better than the one Microsoft is burying it's head in the sand with.

    I have a Wireless Mobile Mouse 400, and the battery life is also less than one month.  My mouse has been replace two times by Microsoft technicians; all the mice have had the same short battery lives.  The technician told me rechargeable batteries can't be used.  I bought some, but never put them in.    They ask me to replace my mouse pad and put the modem for the cable on the other side of my desk.  That didn't help, 

    Yesterday, I bought some cheap batteries, then read that they were for "low drain devices."  Today, I'm just looking for answers the technicains couldn't give me; why my mouse is a power hog.

    I"m having the same problem. I turn the mouse off when not in use. I've had the mouse for three weeks, and had to replace the battery today. I tried returning it to where I bought it, and they wouldn't take it back. I basically got "It's a mouse. It's going to go through batteries." I used to have an HP mouse, and even when the mouse had been used a lot (ie online games) a battery always lasted at least two to three months. And, as always, microsoft is being of no help on this issue. Near as I can tell, the whole 10-month thing is an outright lie. In fact, this mouse is the worst about consuming batteries that I've EVER encountered, and I've had many a wireless mouse.
