One Month Battery Life MS Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000

I purchased this mouse a few months ago, and use it daily.  I'm very happy with the performance, but not with the battery life.

I am forced to replace the battery every month, almost to the day.

The mouse is used primarily with my desktop system, both in my web development work, and general usage.  I estimate my active use at 8 hours daily, but my systems are powered on all the time.

I have used new name brand alkaline batteries (Energizer, Duracell) and the last 2 months, Energizer Lithium batteries, with no difference.

It's impractical for me to turn the mouse on and off throughout the day.

The packaging claims up to 10 months of battery life - obviously I'm not getting anywhere near that.

I have the latest intellipoint drivers and otherwise my Win 7/64 system is up to date.

Do you have any ideas why I'm having this issue, and what I might be able to do about it?

Thanks in advance - as I said, I love the mouse, but the battery costs are eating me alive!

Have you tried contacting MS support about getting it exchanged/replaced? How about the place you bought it? I've had a few wireless mice, and their batteries have all lasted longer than a month, but only one has lasted as long as 10 months. I have a MS Natural Wireless Laser 6000 that they last 6 months, almost to the day. But the batteries in my Logitech V470 Bluetooth Notebook mouse last about 4 months, and it's turned off more than on.

I think you have a defective mouse, but I'm sure neither your merchant nor Microsoft would take my word for it :-)

    I am having the same problem. Battery life extremely short, especially when compared to my other mouse, which is a Logitech.

    I use rechargeables.

    Here is my observation, for what it's worth......

    I have a Hama Battery Tester.

    The indicator has 3 phases.

    Green=Good ca. 30 % of the whole width

    Yellow=Poor ca. 20 % of the whole width

    Red=Replace ca. 50 % of the whole width

    Now, when my last battery stopped working with this mouse I tested it and it was still in the Green area, but only just. Close to the yellow area.

    I tried to use the battery then on my logitech mouse and it worked just fine.

    I am not an electrician. I don't know how batteries dispense the energy they have inside. But it does look to me on the back of what I have written above, that batteries dispense slightly less energy when they start to empty and that the threshold for the laser of the 4000 mouse is very high......

    I just called MS Support... 

    I have a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 with battery drain issues. I change my battery every week now.. i've had this mouse for ~1y. Please note that i do not have the receipt for my mouse.

    MS Support offered to replace the mouse for free, no questions asked. They asked for my PID under the mouse, and where i bought it.

    I told them i didn't want another 3500, or 4000 (since tones of you have the same problem).. They offered to replace it for this model:

    Microsoft Sculpt Confort Mouse.

    Its bluetooth.. and might drain less the battery than the proprietary IR USB plug.. who knows.. 

    If someone wants feedback from my new mouse, let me know, and ill post it later. Should take 7-10 days before i receive my new mouse.

    (I'd like to thank MS in advance for the upgrade and the no-hassle support).

    I have a Logitech Wireless Mouse M310 now.  I don't know how long the battery lasts, but I'm so used to replacing batteries that it doesn't bother me.   The battery lasts longer than the MS mouse.

    I also have a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 and have had it for over a year.  The battery only lasts at most 2 weeks if even that.  I have never turned it off and will try that now, to see if I can get it to last 4 weeks!
