One Month Battery Life MS Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000

I purchased this mouse a few months ago, and use it daily.  I'm very happy with the performance, but not with the battery life.

I am forced to replace the battery every month, almost to the day.

The mouse is used primarily with my desktop system, both in my web development work, and general usage.  I estimate my active use at 8 hours daily, but my systems are powered on all the time.

I have used new name brand alkaline batteries (Energizer, Duracell) and the last 2 months, Energizer Lithium batteries, with no difference.

It's impractical for me to turn the mouse on and off throughout the day.

The packaging claims up to 10 months of battery life - obviously I'm not getting anywhere near that.

I have the latest intellipoint drivers and otherwise my Win 7/64 system is up to date.

Do you have any ideas why I'm having this issue, and what I might be able to do about it?

Thanks in advance - as I said, I love the mouse, but the battery costs are eating me alive!

Have you tried contacting MS support about getting it exchanged/replaced? How about the place you bought it? I've had a few wireless mice, and their batteries have all lasted longer than a month, but only one has lasted as long as 10 months. I have a MS Natural Wireless Laser 6000 that they last 6 months, almost to the day. But the batteries in my Logitech V470 Bluetooth Notebook mouse last about 4 months, and it's turned off more than on.

I think you have a defective mouse, but I'm sure neither your merchant nor Microsoft would take my word for it :-)

    when i new battery installed baterry led status first 4 seccond on after off? is this problem?

    Since the battery isn't lasting that long, just go buy some rechargeable batteries and use those. A lot of money will be saved.

    I bought a pack of four rechargeable batteries (2500mAh nickle-metal hydride) and use all four in rotation. However I only get a maximum of a 3-5 days from each one and that is with switching the mouse off for all inactivity including overnight.

    It therefore appears that the 10 months battery life that Microsoft stats in the spcification of the mouse is grossly over exaggerated. In the UK this 10 month claim of Microsoft's contravenes the Trade Description Act and is therefore illegal here.

    I'd like to know on what usage the 10 months is based on as must be i minute per day to attain 10 months!

    Hello, i also bought this mouse and yesterday my batteries died (2 months, turning it off during night) so i bought new rechargable batteries and today it is dead again, tomorrow i am going to the return it to the store.
