One Month Battery Life MS Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000

I purchased this mouse a few months ago, and use it daily.  I'm very happy with the performance, but not with the battery life.

I am forced to replace the battery every month, almost to the day.

The mouse is used primarily with my desktop system, both in my web development work, and general usage.  I estimate my active use at 8 hours daily, but my systems are powered on all the time.

I have used new name brand alkaline batteries (Energizer, Duracell) and the last 2 months, Energizer Lithium batteries, with no difference.

It's impractical for me to turn the mouse on and off throughout the day.

The packaging claims up to 10 months of battery life - obviously I'm not getting anywhere near that.

I have the latest intellipoint drivers and otherwise my Win 7/64 system is up to date.

Do you have any ideas why I'm having this issue, and what I might be able to do about it?

Thanks in advance - as I said, I love the mouse, but the battery costs are eating me alive!

Have you tried contacting MS support about getting it exchanged/replaced? How about the place you bought it? I've had a few wireless mice, and their batteries have all lasted longer than a month, but only one has lasted as long as 10 months. I have a MS Natural Wireless Laser 6000 that they last 6 months, almost to the day. But the batteries in my Logitech V470 Bluetooth Notebook mouse last about 4 months, and it's turned off more than on.

I think you have a defective mouse, but I'm sure neither your merchant nor Microsoft would take my word for it :-)

    Sorry for the late reply! I signed up for the updates to go to my inbox if anyone replies and I totally forgot. 

    So my situation has been resolved. I have two of the MS Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000's and I received three replacements from MS. One was for me and my Father received 2 by accident in the mail. He's going to call MS to let them know. Knowing MS, they'll probably just let him keep it. So now he has TWO mice and I have TWO mice. I'm hoping the new one can hold the Duracell battery for a long time. I'm pretty sure it's just hit or miss. What's odd is that the font is different for the logo "Microsoft" on top of the new mice I got versus the older ones. Maybe they DID do improvements on this mouse.

    I absolutely love this mouse and would never change. Regardless of battery life. Now I have one to keep in my "to go" backpack when I'm traveling and keep one at home so it doesn't get damaged. I'll keep the new one at home obviously. I'm glad they give Duracell as the battery brand and not some random battery that's made in China with a generic name!

    For once, I am pleased with Microsoft. They didn't ask anything over the phone except for the PID (Product Identification Number) and then they asked for shipping address. They don't want the old ones back. The gentleman I spoke with said they have DC'd this mouse. I'm glad I got my replacement in the graphite black like I originally had. My Dad got 2 shipments of the black ones as well. That's awesome.

    I will keep people posted on the NEW mouse that I am now using. I have to remember to type the PID into a Notepad text file for future reference because it wears off when using the mouse on the recliner.

    What's your battery life like now? Are they different in both mice? It would be interesting to test that out somehow for a week and see how they perform. Not all mice (especially MS 4000) are alike as we all know. It seems Logitech has the best accessories to computers. MS should stick to software.

    I have the same problem with my two Microsoft Mouse !!

    I consume 6 battery each 2/3 weeks.

    I will totally abandon wireless mouse ...

    Hello all!

    I finally called Microsoft again today, November 5th, 2013. They have discontinued the Microsoft Mobile Mouse 4000! I gave them my PID number and the gentleman said that they would send me a replacement free of charge and that I WOULD NOT have to send my old one back! He said I should get it within 14 business days! Here's the email confirmation (I X'd out personal info)

    As you can see -- no charge and my father got another one too because his mouse went bad as well. His wouldn't even work anymore. The leads were shot I think. With mine, it sucked the CELL out of DuraCELL. haha. I'm glad they're addressing the issue...2 years later. Sounds about right for Microsoft.

    Well, after years of buying batteries weekly for this mouse, because I really did like it.. I bit the bullet and bought a different brand. Hard to get used to but I now like this mouse much better. It's a month old and holds 2 aaa batteries. Still haven't changed them yet. Note: this new mouse also has an on off switch, and I've never turned it off.
