Okay, I hit a button on a font installer and installed about 10000 fonts. How do I restore the default fonts that were originally on 7?

Hi EssenceWebsiteDesign,

You can restore the default font and remove any changes that you've made to your display settings from Appearance and Personalization.

Here’s how:

1.    Open Fonts by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Fonts.

2.    In the left pane, click Font settings.

3.    Click Restore default font settings.

Note

This also removes all manual changes that you've made to your display settings.

I've listed couple of links that could be of assistance to you.

People, I tested all the suggestions. Nothing works so far. But!

Today I discovered a way to really reset your Windows fonts folder.

    Step 1

    Download Ubuntu

Right click on the downloaded ISO

    Burn ISO to disk

    Reboot your pc

Boot Ubuntu from disk (on most computers you have to press F12 directly after boot-up-sequence to access a boot menu)

    Step 2

Locate with Ubuntu file manager your Windows font folder

Remove all fonts within your Windows font folder. Not the font folder itself.

(by using Ubuntu Windows system fonts are no longer protected and can be erased)

    Step 3

Reboot your system (don't forget to remove the Ubuntu disk from the drive)

Now Windows will start-up and will open automatically the Windows repair program

When the question pops up to recover your system with a previous restore point, choose no.

Now wait, wait, wait and wait ...

After a really long time (30 minutes took my pc) Windows will tell you that your system has been fixed.

Click reboot and voilla Windows has restored restored all system fonts and even fixed the ugly bold fonts in your browser/email like Firefox Thunderbird e.g.
