Hi There,

We work in support environment and use dual monitors setup. WIN7 heard to have very good support for such setup and easy to use functionalities. However at some point something which was great has gone troubled.

We can use both the monitors while working on it however just the time its locked it blacks out the second monitor background and screensavers set if any. I tried looking for any config changes but in vain. Looking out for answer to this here.

Thanking you in advance.

There is no built in way to change this functionality. **When locked, one screen will be black.**There may be some 3rd party software that may do this however it would not be supported by  Microsoft.

Solution1:  Have your Help Desk remove end users second monitor because it's "broke".  Problem solved.

Solution2:  If it bothers you that much, go back to Windows XP.  Problem sovled.

You're right coldfire.  I missed the point.  Because the point is a waste of everyones talented time.  I only took the time to post about it because of the absurdity of the whole situation.  I'm honestly still shocked that people believe this is a "legit" issue.  I won't lose any sleep over it and neither should you. Educate your end users.  Be happy they're locking their computer when they get up for their coffee or their smoke break every 10 minutes.  And rest assured, that when they press that magic little key sequence "Ctrl" + "Alt" + "Delete", their beautiful picture of the beach they vacationed on, or their pet dog, or sweet little kid, will be happily staring them in the face . . . on both screens.

As someone working in a Data Center, I can say there -is- valid use for this feature from XP.  I like to have a second box full of monitors going, running admin mode so I don't lock myself out of a box during metric polls.  I run the various admin tools (ADUC, Powershell, EMC) on the main monitor, which was hidden when the PC is locked - and the tertiary monitors around it all display fullscreen metrics and performance data.  It's a fantastic setup to have, but I can't leave admin credentials lying unlocked in our DC (or anywhere, for that matter), so the fact that Microsoft surreptitiously removed this feature is incredibly annoying, and the sole reason we had one XP box remaining on an otherwise Win7 domain.

So get off your high horse, already.

That said, any new leads on this in terms of out-of-the-box solutions? I'd -really- rather not dedicate a box just for a heavily restricted and useless admin account to run metrics on.

FOR EVERONE, who has no idea what is being discussed here...

Please look at post #47 of this LINK because probably they need VISUAL help to understand things.

And so far until this day, there is no solution so I encourage everyone to stop posting rants here but instead email to MICROSOFT directly your concerns so you will be heard.

You need a video card that supports at least as many outputs as you want to use, or more than one card. This is not a Microsoft issue and, more importantly, is not related to the topic. If you really think there needs to be a discussion about a topic, you can created a thread, assuming no such thread already exists. But please don't hijack existing threads with unrelated discussion.

Yeah, But that it is what was happen to me, I want two monitor in my PC and one was blocked, because you only can configure one kind of video at the same time HD or Analog not both, only if you have two Video Cards....So, to resolve my case because my monitor come with a VGA connection, I used a DVI to VGA converter and make the connection and work....I think that what happen is that the OS is a one way video HD or Analog and don't work both way at the same time I really don't know, but when I connect both of them as a HD it work.....And that is why I write to this Thread 6/8 months ago, because I was having this problem....
