I am using Windows 7  and getting an error Code

WerFault.exe - Application Error

The Instruction at 0xfcf9c9fe reference memory at 0x00000001. The memory could not be written. Click to terminate program.

How do I fix this?

The werfault.exe is used for Windows Error Reporting. It is a feature that allows Microsoft to track and address errors relating to the operating system, Windows features, and applications. It gives you the option to send data about errors to Microsoft and to receive information about solutions.

You can access settings for Windows Error Reporting here: Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Problem Reports and Solutions > Change settings > Advanced settings

Try turning it off temporarily and see if this will fix the problem.

As a temporarily solution you can turn off error reporting service: press Win+R, type services.msc than find Windows Error Reporting service in the services list, right-click on it -> click Properties ->  open "Startup type" list and select "Disabled" -> press OK.

Then check and see if you are still getting the werfault.exe error on opening programs.

Since you have just installed Windows 7, please verify you have updated all of your device drivers to a Windows 7 version. If you cannot do so in normal mode, then go to safe mode and verify in device manager.

    Dear Swathi,

    I'm Also experiencing the same problem .. but i can't open any application even control panel... .. every time if any actions performed this error message keep on showing ... Any alternative solutions.....

    Tell me permanent solutions to solve this problem so that without any trouble i can use my lap .. else i need to sit with that & rectify the mistake..

    Rather replying to my comment. please send me the solution in separate mail as it would be useful for me to identify & solve it...  Kindly do the needful.

    Memory problem. Try to change new memory.

    if you have more than one Memory installed, try remove it one by one and test if problem disappear.

    As a mac os owner and a windows owner, I am amazed how people expect, no demand an explanation for a problem that has next to infinite root causes.  Spitting out your error message and demanding a solution is like randomly opening a dictionary and yelling that the word you are looking for is not there.

    For those complaining that they can't find the system and maintenance section in control panel, how about learning how to use your computer and just type in "problem reports" in the search window when you have control panel open.  That's the little blank box in the upper right corner on most windows 7 systems, disclaimer it may contain peanuts.

    For those who can't seem to function because the popup window keeps appearing blocking what they want to click try moving the window.  I know its hard to comprehend that in windows, the windows actually are movable, but try dragging the window to the side out of the way and then go through the process of disabling the problem reports and see what happens.

    I came here because I also had the werfault error, and since my hardware config is nothing like any previous posters, I had to search for problem reports, that popup kept showing up in my way, so I moved it to the side, when through the process of disabling the reports and tried again to close the windows. Took too many clicks, but was gone.  Left my laptop sit for a few mins and the werfault is back.  I will continue to research my issue and as many have stated it is extremely likely to be a driver issue, so check for updated drivers.

    Best of luck to those who have this issue, and for those that can only spew negativity and distaste for your operating system, take a class, read a book, try anything to better your knowledge of windows or computers instead of demanding others give you answers to questions you may not even comprehend what you are asking/demanding...
