I am using Windows 7 and getting an error Code

WerFault.exe - Application Error

The Instruction at 0xfcf9c9fe reference memory at 0x00000001. The memory could not be written. Click to terminate program.

How do I fix this?

The werfault.exe is used for Windows Error Reporting. It is a feature that allows Microsoft to track and address errors relating to the operating system, Windows features, and applications. It gives you the option to send data about errors to Microsoft and to receive information about solutions.

You can access settings for Windows Error Reporting here: Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Problem Reports and Solutions > Change settings > Advanced settings

Try turning it off temporarily and see if this will fix the problem.

As a temporarily solution you can turn off error reporting service: press Win+R, type services.msc than find Windows Error Reporting service in the services list, right-click on it -> click Properties -> open "Startup type" list and select "Disabled" -> press OK.

Then check and see if you are still getting the werfault.exe error on opening programs.

Since you have just installed Windows 7, please verify you have updated all of your device drivers to a Windows 7 version. If you cannot do so in normal mode, then go to safe mode and verify in device manager.

I took the time to come back to this thread and post my solution to this extremely horrible problem that I have had for the past 3-4 days. I tried all the below and nothing worked. Finally, I went to the computer manufacturer (Dell) website and updated my bios....boom... no more message. Like a freaking miracle. I also reinstalled whatever drivers my manufacturer could give me. But the BIOS update did it for sure. I also cleared space off of my hard drive that was getting full. Another person suggested that. So, I did those three things and it finally worked. May work for you, may not.

I'm getting this error continually whilst trying to start windows 10 for the first time. Hence, i can't access my control panel, my comp restarts on the "finalizing settings" screen every time. Have used all safe modes and disabled malware initially. Same result, an hour on the phone odd not help whatsoever.

I've heard that once you download Windows 10, you have to update ALL of your drivers immediately. I have not updated yet so I cannot be of much help, but what you can do now is if you can, boot to safe mode with networking and download the latest driver for all of your drivers. If this isn't of any help, sorry man I tried lol. Hope you fix the problem eventually.
