I am using Windows 7  and getting an error Code

WerFault.exe - Application Error

The Instruction at 0xfcf9c9fe reference memory at 0x00000001. The memory could not be written. Click to terminate program.

How do I fix this?

The werfault.exe is used for Windows Error Reporting. It is a feature that allows Microsoft to track and address errors relating to the operating system, Windows features, and applications. It gives you the option to send data about errors to Microsoft and to receive information about solutions.

You can access settings for Windows Error Reporting here: Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Problem Reports and Solutions > Change settings > Advanced settings

Try turning it off temporarily and see if this will fix the problem.

As a temporarily solution you can turn off error reporting service: press Win+R, type services.msc than find Windows Error Reporting service in the services list, right-click on it -> click Properties ->  open "Startup type" list and select "Disabled" -> press OK.

Then check and see if you are still getting the werfault.exe error on opening programs.

Since you have just installed Windows 7, please verify you have updated all of your device drivers to a Windows 7 version. If you cannot do so in normal mode, then go to safe mode and verify in device manager.

    I'm getting the same error. The above workaround don't help at all. And I'm handling 100+ workstations. MS haven't given any concrete solution about this issue.

    I am getting this same issue and disabling WER to workaround is not working. This thing has loaded about 2000 processes as stated above. Give us a real answer and not something that has been copied and pasted.

    There is no such thing as: Contral Panel> System and Maintenance>.....etc not in My Win 7.

    Typical Microsoft non-answer.  No wonder more people are switching to Macs. 

    This stupid fault error pops up and has already loaded a couple of thousand processes before I have to reboot.  Another nice job of making junk software!

    Win 7 just as bad as Vista (the Me of the 21st Century)
