Monitor won't wake up when coming back from sleep (Windows 7)

I recently upgraded my Dell Dimension desktop to Windows 7. In order to do so, I had to install a new grapchis card (NVIDIA GeForce).

I set the PC to sleep after a period of time. When I go to move the mouse and wake the computer back up, the PC itself seems to respond, but the monitor never comes back from sleep. I have no choice but to reboot to get the monitor back.

Any suggestions?

A Universal fix would be ideal but - ASUS appears in 14 out of the 16 pages in this thread!!! Not saying everybody having this problem has an ASUS motherboard but if they do, and it seems a high percentage of people do, then they need todisable the PLL Overvoltage in their BIOS!!

IT ACTUALLY WORKS! Not just a workaround, my Computer AND Monitor now both wake from sleep by simply moving the mouse!

Also, obviously only people who have this problem are going to come here. If this is a wide-spread Windows 7 problem, then what about all the complaints large companies like HP Compaq and DELL etc would receive when their customers have the same problem? If they received many complaints and being that  they have a much bigger voice than us they would simply demand Microsoft fix it. I also have a TOSHIBA laptop running windows 7 and it sleeps and wakes just fine.

So if anybody who has friends or family who own a 2011 Dell, Acer or HP etc that came out brand new, factory loaded with Windows 7  please ask them if they have this issue or not. (These companies may have had this problem initially but I would imagine it would be fixed by now??!!)

A lot of people who have this problem also seem to have a separate Video Card (I have a Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 which of course the monitor is connected to) Do any people who are using integrated graphics also have this problem such as people with an H67 mobo?

I am curious as to what percentage of Windows 7 users have this problem. We may find we are in the 1% bracket and 99% of Windows 7 users don't have this problem. It may just be incompatibility of Windows 7  with either our hardware or settings.

In my case disabling PLL Overvoltage works! :-)

    SOLVED!!! 

    In the BIOS you need to set the PLL Overvoltage to 'Disabled' - default is 'Auto'.

    Not sure if you can change this setting in your BIOS but if you can TRY IT!!  My monitor now wakes up alongside the computer after being put in sleep mode with a simple move of the mouse.

    I am running Windows 7 on an ASUS P8P67 PRO motherboard with an i7 2600k running an everyday overclock of 4.5Ghz

    I recently built a new MCE machine with the ASUS motherboard. I have an HDMI connection to my TV. I see the same issue where my PC will wake up from standby, but the display will not receive a signal.

    I have narrowed it down to a few use cases. Example, I finish watching TV and put my MCE into standby mode and turn off the display. The MCE then turns on to record a show. I turn the display on to watch TV and it dosen't display. If the MCE was still in standby, the display would receive the signal.

    I beelive my issue, and maybe other issue has to do with a DRM handshake between the computer and the dispaly. If the display isn't on when the computer returns from sleep, i am wondering if it can't make the handshake.

    I still haven't figured out how to fix the issue. Any help would be appreciated.

    I have exactly the same problem.  My machine would essentially wake and crash.  Updated the vid card drivers, removed the card and went to the motherboard vid.  Stripped the PC, thereby eliminating all the possibilities outside of software and mobo.  At that point, using the event logs, I traced the problem to my motherboard's nic.  installed an internal NIC/Ethernet card and shut down the motherboard's connection and I have sleep back.  Problem solved.

    I was having a similar problem with my laptop

    I went so far as to format the drive and reinstall Everything (windows 7 ultimate)

    but the same thing happened, it would freeze up on me about 25% of the time

    so i got to thinking... i was reinstalling the same drivers I previously had

    I uninstalled my Nvidia driver (using drive sweeper)

    Went and found a different video driver version

    Installed it, and now all is well

    :)
