Monitor won't wake up when coming back from sleep (Windows 7)

I recently upgraded my Dell Dimension desktop to Windows 7. In order to do so, I had to install a new grapchis card (NVIDIA GeForce).

I set the PC to sleep after a period of time. When I go to move the mouse and wake the computer back up, the PC itself seems to respond, but the monitor never comes back from sleep. I have no choice but to reboot to get the monitor back.

Any suggestions?

A Universal fix would be ideal but - ASUS appears in 14 out of the 16 pages in this thread!!! Not saying everybody having this problem has an ASUS motherboard but if they do, and it seems a high percentage of people do, then they need todisable the PLL Overvoltage in their BIOS!!

IT ACTUALLY WORKS! Not just a workaround, my Computer AND Monitor now both wake from sleep by simply moving the mouse!

Also, obviously only people who have this problem are going to come here. If this is a wide-spread Windows 7 problem, then what about all the complaints large companies like HP Compaq and DELL etc would receive when their customers have the same problem? If they received many complaints and being that  they have a much bigger voice than us they would simply demand Microsoft fix it. I also have a TOSHIBA laptop running windows 7 and it sleeps and wakes just fine.

So if anybody who has friends or family who own a 2011 Dell, Acer or HP etc that came out brand new, factory loaded with Windows 7  please ask them if they have this issue or not. (These companies may have had this problem initially but I would imagine it would be fixed by now??!!)

A lot of people who have this problem also seem to have a separate Video Card (I have a Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 which of course the monitor is connected to) Do any people who are using integrated graphics also have this problem such as people with an H67 mobo?

I am curious as to what percentage of Windows 7 users have this problem. We may find we are in the 1% bracket and 99% of Windows 7 users don't have this problem. It may just be incompatibility of Windows 7  with either our hardware or settings.

In my case disabling PLL Overvoltage works! :-)

    About your other problem Sparkz61, if your running a new sandy bridge i5 with a P67 or H67 based motherboard (especially if the motherboard is ASUS) you may just have an auto-overclocker setting turned on which does a temperature check and adjusts clock speeds during boot up. My P8P67 Pro does that if I set the AITuner Auto Overclocking Bios feature on. It may just be the same thing for you, so not a problem but rather a setting that needs to be changed.

    I've struggled with this same problem for years with multiple custom builds. I also have a problem where if I start my computer but forget to turn on my display, I can't ever seem to get the monitor to display anything unless I hit ctrl+alt+del and then alt+L which initiates the logon screen which somehow starts up the monitor. Anyways, I've sinced tested my PCs on a 46" HDTV and an old 17" CRT monitor and I NEVER have this problem on those 2 monitors. So I think the problem is an HDCP thing with my computer LCD, an older Samsung 21.5" TFT212 which I think isn't HDCP compatible.

    Funny, my system used to wake up from hybrid sleep without issues... then, I'm not quite sure exactly when, I too found the monitor would not wake up. I have two nVidia adapters and three monitors, so I can rule out hardware as an issue. What is truly perplexing is that when I cycle power via the on/off switch, I don't get a cold boot response. The screens light up with "Windows is resuming" and, after a much longer pause than normal, the system finally is ready for work. This is not what I would expect if the problem was a driver issue (mine are all up-to-date, anyway). It seems that Microsoft had introduced this problem during one of the many updates; but who knows which update is at fault?

    I get almost the exact same thing. I just put together a system with an i5 CPU, Nvidia561Ti etc.  When I either put the comp into sleep mode or let it time out and it goes in, it appears to shut down. When I hit the start button the system wakes up but not the monitor. So I have to shut it down, reboot and then it comes back but in the "Windows is resuming" mode like you. 

    Also on a similar note, does anyone else have this problem?  When I first boot my computer in the a.m. it starts for about 7 seconds, shuts off for 3 or 4, then starts up again and boots up normally.  Irritating to say the least.
