Windows has detected an IP address conflict

I just recently purchased my laptop so I am just learning. The message I got on the computer said, Another computer on this network has the same IP address as this computer. Contact your network administrator for help resolving this issue. More details are available in the Windows System event log. What does this mean and is this something important I need to fix. I would appreciate any help in this matter.

I see that message on my home network sometimes, and it's not critical.  If you have a home network, try powering off your router, waiting a few seconds, and powering it on.  If you're on a business network, consult with the network manager.

In what you posted, there is no problem and you have a valid ip address that is working already:

      IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.173.112.227(Preferred)

Maybe for whatever reason, your DHCP server is not working correctly OR your information has changed since you posted that.

If this machine is only going to be used in that one location, recommend to set static ip and disable the DHCP server to eliminate any possibilities of issues.

I GOT IT!! I tried something that I had tried before (early yesterday). It seems that if I disconnect from the VZ modem ( by clicking on disconnect in the VZ Access Manager program), and leave VZ Access Manager running....next time I connect, I get the "IP address" error message. However, if I shut VZ Access manager down after disconnecting.........no error message the next time I run Access Manager, and connect! So, it appears that VZ is not clearing all the right info when disconnecting. What do you think?

By the way.....Thanks for your help

You can temporary disable this VZ software you're talking about by typing msconfig in the Start then press enter. (For Windows 7) Go to Startup tab then uncheck the box for it. Click ok to save.

Type services.msc in Start then press Enter. Make sure WLAN Autoconfig is set to Automatic.

    Reboot.

Your connection should just be working well and you never have to think about it again.

If for some weird reason your service is some kind of special type and that didn't work, just use the same tools to set it back to how it was.

    You're welcome.
