Windows has detected an IP address conflict

I just recently purchased my laptop so I am just learning. The message I got on the computer said, Another computer on this network has the same IP address as this computer. Contact your network administrator for help resolving this issue. More details are available in the Windows System event log. What does this mean and is this something important I need to fix. I would appreciate any help in this matter.

I see that message on my home network sometimes, and it's not critical.  If you have a home network, try powering off your router, waiting a few seconds, and powering it on.  If you're on a business network, consult with the network manager.

    I get this message all the time. As far as I am concerned it is just an annoying pop-up that otherwise affects nothing. Unless you know it is causing specific problems don't worry about it.

    This seems to be an issue with Windows 7 and not a machine issue.

    It is not a problem with just Windows 7, I am still running Vista due to the bugs already in Win 7, and for the last 2 wks I have been having the same issue. I am trying to look thru my updates to see which one of those could have impacted the network. I have always logged in thru my phone for the last year with no problems until now.

    Hi there, I too had issues with network problems after I upgraded to Windows 7 via a download. I kept having to restart to get an internet connection, but when my PC went into idle or sleep mode, I lost my network connection. Finally gave up in the end and went back to Vista (no problems) and got a refund from Microsoft store. This seems to be an issue with Windows 7 and not a machine issue. They need to issue a solution fast!

    I too am having considerable, numerous wireless issues since my latest Microsoft update. Im spending many hours a day trying to get a wireless connection. I'll keep checking her for resolutions....
