I have Windows 7 Ultimate. Since very recently an unknown device keeps popping up in the device manager every time I start Win. It's reported location is within the front USB root hub but I haven't changed there anything lately. The device status reports "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43)". I can uninstall/disable it but it will get picked up again the next time I reboot. All other usb devices (mouse, keyboard, web camera, APC UPS, external drive, printer) work fine. How do I get rid of this nuisance so that it doesn't reappear?

If the problem coincided with hooking up the APC UPS that may indicate the problem is with the UPS.

Somewhat similar situation discussed in the following link:

Your situations seems similar as from the "System Information" file the "problem device" has an Error Code "This device is working properly" yet remains an "Unknown Device".

I would suggest to detach the APC UPS from the computer and uninstall any related software.

Restart the computer and see if the "Unknown Device" problem resolves.

    I'm having the same issue.  Under "Value" it says "Unknown Property"

    Hi heboy58,

    In the Device Manager can you double-click the unknown device  > Properties > Details, then choose "Hardware Ids" from the drop-down menu under "Property".

    What is listed under "Value"?

    Same problem here. I sent my computer in 3 times being it was in warranty, would come back everything working fine.

    I finally figured out it was windows. I would disable, uninstall, whatever I could to try to get rid of it but it would come back like some evil entity. There's a tower looking thing in Devices and Printers, plus 2 USB   ports working or not (goes back and forth) and a visual and a clunking sound depicting an error.

    All I'm running is my keyboard, speakers, mouse. Have unplugged all and it's still there.

    It interferes with  any and all audio  

    Driving me crazy (short trip)

    OMG - me too - but only when I connect my sync cable to the USB hub.. what did you do to resolve problem.. i was told by Hewlett Packard that I probably need a new sync cable- seriously though I take such great care of my things - it's in MINT condition.  All this started for me after an upgrade of sort. really ticking me off ...
