I have Windows 7 Ultimate. Since very recently an unknown device keeps popping up in the device manager every time I start Win. It's reported location is within the front USB root hub but I haven't changed there anything lately. The device status reports "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43)". I can uninstall/disable it but it will get picked up again the next time I reboot. All other usb devices (mouse, keyboard, web camera, APC UPS, external drive, printer) work fine. How do I get rid of this nuisance so that it doesn't reappear?

If the problem coincided with hooking up the APC UPS that may indicate the problem is with the UPS.

Somewhat similar situation discussed in the following link:

Your situations seems similar as from the "System Information" file the "problem device" has an Error Code "This device is working properly" yet remains an "Unknown Device".

I would suggest to detach the APC UPS from the computer and uninstall any related software.

Restart the computer and see if the "Unknown Device" problem resolves.

    I plug in my Kingston Datatraveler 4G to desktop (with window 7) & i tried to transfered a folder with compressed files to the pendrive but only a empty folder(0 K) is transfered from desktop to the pendrive. Then, i deleted the folder, tried again, managed to transfered the folder.

    After that, i remove the pendrive from the desktop (with window 7) & plug it to desktop (with Window XP 2002 service pack 3), message 'USD Device not recognized' pop out.

    Checked the unknown device properties- Device status-Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43).

    Checked Device Manager, under universal serial bus controlled, only one unknown device with yellow mark. Is that possible the driver of the thumbdrive got problem?

    when i tried to choose for the computer to look for the drivers online (update driver software), my computer said the software is up to date

    What can i do?

    I also have the same problem. Under USB-controllers in Device Manager is an Unknown Device with Error Code 43. I do not have a UPS, but if wonder why someone mentioned this:

    I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate from a Kingston DataTraveler USB-device. Could that be the cause? It's not connected anymore, but it was for the installation + drivers. Any solution? Where did you find that problem?

    Suffering a similar problem, error 43 reported on Laptop and PC running Windows 7 but the product (Sandisk Cruzer Slice 8GB) works fine on my Vista Laptop.
