Windows 7: Deleted files still show in windows explorer

when I delete a file in windows explorer it still shows there - I have to switch to a different directory and back, then the file name of the deleted file disappears. How can windoes explorer be configured so that deleted files disappear there immediately?

Hello Everyone,

As TavisB said that this didn’t occur on his guest account before he reinstalled. That means that a corrupted profile can cause this issue, let’s try creating a new account to see if that solves the problem. If the new account works correctly, I’ll provide steps to transferring over your user files.

·         Click Start

·         Enter User Accounts into the search field

·         Press Enter on your keyboard

·         Click Manage another Account

·         Click Create a new account

·         Type the name of the user account

·         Click the account type (make it administrator if you are replacing an administrator account)

·         Click Create Account

·         Log off the current user

·         Log into the new user

Try to replicate the problems experienced by your original profile. If the problem doesn’t occur then you just have to switch your documents over to this profile.

·         Click Start

·         Click Documents

·         Click Tools (Press Alt if Tools isn’t visible)

·         Click Folder Options…

·         Click View

·         Click Show hidden files and folders

·         Clear Hide protected operating system files

·         Click OK

·         Navigate to this location C:\Users<old username>

·         Select all files and folders except the Ntuser.dat, Ntuser.dat.log, and Ntuser.ini files

·         Click Edit (Press Alt if not visible)

·         Click Copy

·         Locate the C:\Users<new username>

·         Click Edit (Press Alt is not visible)

·         Click Paste

·         Log off the new user

·         Log back into the new user

    Glad you share the same level of frustration. 

    On another note (while we're venting) ... where the h*ll is the "up folder" button in explorer?  I understand you can navigate down the folder structure by clicking on the name of the folder in the explorer location bar, but I would also like the "up folder" button to still be there... easier in my mind to know you want to go back two folders (two clicks) rather than recalling what the name of the folder was... counter-intuitive IMHO...

    Hi Siemieniuk,

                      Its frustrating huh? Well what to do...the next time we just have to get a MAC, any way i've stopped using the library functions. If at all i need to view my files, i just go to desktop, click on my computer etc etc. This way the problem doesnt happen. Its shamefull that microsoft has not got a fix for this.....is this so difficult to solve? Is that complicated? They can even sent a fix to disable the library functions, like we use to have before this..... GOD KNOWS WHATs WRONG WITH MICROSOFT.......

    While I'm not a programmer - why can't Microsoft (rather than issuing a patch to fix the indexing problem) at least issue a fix that will 'refresh' each time something is done in explorer when using libraries?  This will at least give the end user the feeling that the problem is fixed. 

    I had 7 x64 installed for 2 months and this problem just instantly appeared yesterday.  As soon as I navigate to my folders traditionally everything works as planned ... *sigh* typical Microsoft... why didn't I go Mac with Parallels to run my proprietary software?  No idea... but that will likely change next time around.  Although, I don't see Steve Jobs making a pledge to give his fortune to charity.

    Does anyone know of a third-party explorer?

    Please for god sake this problem has been happening for almost a year, instead of all those steps of fixing ourselves, i think its time for Microsoft to sent a fix/ update. If they have then why its not working? or do they have a fix? It's so frustrating and it's definately a bug.
