when I delete a file in windows explorer it still shows there - I have to switch to a different directory and back, then the file name of the deleted file disappears. How can windoes explorer be configured so that deleted files disappear there immediately?

Hello Everyone,

As TavisB said that this didn’t occur on his guest account before he reinstalled. That means that a corrupted profile can cause this issue, let’s try creating a new account to see if that solves the problem. If the new account works correctly, I’ll provide steps to transferring over your user files.

·         Click Start

·         Enter User Accounts into the search field

·         Press Enter on your keyboard

·         Click Manage another Account

·         Click Create a new account

·         Type the name of the user account

·         Click the account type (make it administrator if you are replacing an administrator account)

·         Click Create Account

·         Log off the current user

·         Log into the new user

Try to replicate the problems experienced by your original profile. If the problem doesn’t occur then you just have to switch your documents over to this profile.

·         Click Start

·         Click Documents

·         Click Tools (Press Alt if Tools isn’t visible)

·         Click Folder Options…

·         Click View

·         Click Show hidden files and folders

·         Clear Hide protected operating system files

·         Click OK

·         Navigate to this location C:\Users<old username>

·         Select all files and folders except the Ntuser.dat, Ntuser.dat.log, and Ntuser.ini files

·         Click Edit (Press Alt if not visible)

·         Click Copy

·         Locate the C:\Users<new username>

·         Click Edit (Press Alt is not visible)

·         Click Paste

·         Log off the new user

·         Log back into the new user

Hope that helps, look forward to hearing back from you.

After reading Hundreds of "This Worked for me posts"lol  I Believe i have actually found the problem and an ACTUAL Solution.

The problem lies with HOMEGROUPS. If you have a folder shared and connected to one of your libraries, when you delete the folder the LIBRARY (for lack of a better word) "Holds on to the file"

The Solution??   Simple.... Either before or after you delete the file RIGHT CLICK on the associated library and CLICK PROPERTIES > Select the suspect file and click remove...

Instantly after you have done that if you check the Directory you will see the file/s have DISAPEARED!  :)

    Cheers,

    Top Cat.

    This worked for me ;)

    Big Thanks

Many years ago I project managed an operating system as part of a proprietary computer design. The team's number one 'No-No' was Filing System bugs i.e. losing data or presenting it incorrectly. We always gave these bugs top priority for fixes and would not release to production until they were fixed. Microsoft seems more interested in Windows 7 glitz than data accuracy. How can it expect to be taken seriously in business when data is presented 'incorrectly'. This is a serious bug, Microsoft.

It is absolutely mind blowing that something so fundamental in an OS can go unrepaired for so long.

And, Microsoft has not even *commented* on this issue!

Can *anyone* point me to *any evidence* that Microsoft has acknowledged this problem?
