Windows 7: Deleted files still show in windows explorer

when I delete a file in windows explorer it still shows there - I have to switch to a different directory and back, then the file name of the deleted file disappears. How can windoes explorer be configured so that deleted files disappear there immediately?

Hello Everyone,

As TavisB said that this didn’t occur on his guest account before he reinstalled. That means that a corrupted profile can cause this issue, let’s try creating a new account to see if that solves the problem. If the new account works correctly, I’ll provide steps to transferring over your user files.

·         Click Start

·         Enter User Accounts into the search field

·         Press Enter on your keyboard

·         Click Manage another Account

·         Click Create a new account

·         Type the name of the user account

·         Click the account type (make it administrator if you are replacing an administrator account)

·         Click Create Account

·         Log off the current user

·         Log into the new user

Try to replicate the problems experienced by your original profile. If the problem doesn’t occur then you just have to switch your documents over to this profile.

·         Click Start

·         Click Documents

·         Click Tools (Press Alt if Tools isn’t visible)

·         Click Folder Options…

·         Click View

·         Click Show hidden files and folders

·         Clear Hide protected operating system files

·         Click OK

·         Navigate to this location C:\Users<old username>

·         Select all files and folders except the Ntuser.dat, Ntuser.dat.log, and Ntuser.ini files

·         Click Edit (Press Alt if not visible)

·         Click Copy

·         Locate the C:\Users<new username>

·         Click Edit (Press Alt is not visible)

·         Click Paste

·         Log off the new user

·         Log back into the new user

    I have done a lot of work searching Microsoft.com for a resolution to "Deleted files still show inwindows explorer", but have yet to find a resolution anywhere. I have the same problem on my new PC with a fresh version of Windows 7 Home Premium. The only workaround I have found is using the start button and navigating through Computer -> c:/ -> Users -> Andrew -> My Documents when I want to do any deleting. A deleted file will disappear immediately when going that route. Pain in the butt and a major inconvenience. From what I have read on all of the posts about this issue, it is not a conflicting driver, corrupt profile, or any other setting that the end user can control. Is this a bug acknowledged by Microsoft?

    Hello.

    I have the same problem, in its most annoying form: when F5 does not help at all. Only waiting (maybe 30s, maybe more) helps making files effectively deleted diseappear from explorer.

    In my case the problem occurs only when deleting a bunch of file, one of them (and only one) being bigger than recycle bin.

    When deleting that files from explorer, a message "file too big for recycle bin ..." appears, and some smaller files remains visible after deleting (the big one goes away).

    If I delete the big file from code first (File.Delete(...)) -no recycle message then-, then goes to explorer to delete all the small files, then the display in explorer works fine.

    Maybe it can help...

    I have solved this problem MANY times my wiping the Shadow Copies and System Restore points in the "Cleanup Wizard" on "More options"

    Same with me, microsoft don't appear to be doing anything, is it time for a mac

    I agree, I don't see why I should have to go to all the inconvenience of a reinstalling to fix a Microsoft BUG and it is a a bug i.e. an error by Microsoft.
