How do I know what the CIFS sign is

I was having the same problems as you guys with the LG BD570. Here's what I was able to come up with to stream from laptop to the LG

BTW, I'm using Windows 7 Premium Home

** First make sure your computer & LG player are both part of the same network. If you're not sure lookup "setting up a home network" on this site and get that setup first!

1. Open My Computer, then double click C: Drive
2. Double click users

3) Right click on your username (this is your login name for Windows)

4. Highlight 'share with', then select 'Homegroup (read)'
5. Give the PC a few seconds to finish configuring (if you're asked if you're sure you want to share, click 'yes')
6. Close out 'My Computer'
7. Open Windows Media Player (I have version 12.07)
8. In the upper left hand corner, click the 'Stream' button
9. Select 'Turn on media streaming with Homegroup'
10. Select the folders you wish to share (ex. pictures, music, videos, etc)
11. Click 'next'
12. Either write down the password shown or choose the 'change your password' button to change it to something you'll remember.
13. Click 'Finish'
14. Here a menu pops up which allows you to name your Library; select 'Local Network' at the 'Show Devices On' section.
15. Also on this menu beside 'Media Programs on this PC...', make sure 'Allowed' is selected.
16. Click 'OK' at bottom of window
17. In the upper left of WMPlayer, select 'Stream' again; This time make sure 'Automatically allow devices to play my media' has a check mark beside it. (If not, click it so it is checked)
18. Now go back to your LG blu-ray, cycle off the power (if not already), restart the player. Then go to the Home Link Menu that lists the computers on your network. You should see your PC name & a Windows Media icon on screen.

Select the Windows Media icon and your music should show up on screen.

**Note: I found that my LG player did not even ask for the password, but yours may?

I have the 590 and recently tried this solution.  Unfortunately it didn't work. 

Currently there is one user and password on my computer; the administrator.  That account has all the media on it that I want to share.  When I create a "guest" user that account doesn't have access to the media - even though the whole C: drive is shared.  More so the username and ID used for the second account don't work as the CIFS sign in.

Any other ideas?  I read somewhere that Windows Live might cause a problem - anyone know if this is true?

In response to my own question, I finally figured it out.  It took a while but in the end the creating a "guest" account separate from the admin worked.

Like the majority of people that have responded to this thread, I too purchased an LG Blu-ray player (model BD670) and encountered the same “CIFS Sign In” dilemma. Reading down through this thread, there seems to be several different approaches as to solving this problem;  Creating a new / guest user, Uninstalling Windows Live Sign-In Assistant and any other windows live products, Editing the Registry, and Editing Windows Media Player settings.

In my case, all I want to do is be able to access my libraries, eg. ‘My Pictures’, ‘My music’, ‘My videos’, etc. which reside on the C drive. My question is which one of the (above) scenarios / fixes would best fit my situation, or is there another solution to this problem?

By the way, my OS is Windows 7 HP (64 bit), I also quizzed LG regarding the ‘Nero MediaHome Essentials’ software that came with my BR player. According to their support, this software was not necessary when running Windows 7, since sharing is incorporated into the OS.
