How do I know what the CIFS sign is

Greetings! I just bought one of those networkable blu ray players... I have access to my portable network drive and thus are able to watch downloaded movies... Could you define  how to log in to my  network ... the bluray player asks for a "cifs sign in" in order to stream from my laptop... In lamen terms... I dont know what would the CIFS siign in name would be... How do I know what it is? I cant figure out what or where it will be...

·         Who is the manufacturer of the Blu-ray device?

Common Internet File System (CIFS), a protocol that defines a standard for remote file access using millions of computers at a time. With CIFS, users with different platforms and computers can share files without having to install new software.

I would suggest you to contact the manufacturer of the device for CIFS sign in details, also look for the CIFS information from the user manual.

    Hi folks,

    To all the owners of LG-BD570 Blu-ray player who are having issues accessing windows 7 native shares via CFS without using Nero Media Home or Windows Media Center( Which are DLNA enabled), here is the solution after spending sleepless nights in troubleshooting this.

    1. Make Sure  you have these network Settings:

    • Network and sharing settings:
    • Press start menu and go to your Control Panel.
    • Open your Network and Sharing Center.
    • Click on the right on Change advanced sharing settings.
    • Press the arrow at the right to hide your Home or Work profile.
    • Then Press the arrow at the right to show your Public profile.
    • Make the following changes:
      • Turn on network discovery.
      • Turn on file and printer sharing.
      • Turn off Public folder sharing.
      • Turn off password protected sharing

    2. Uninstall Windows Live Sign in assistant, windows live mesh and any other windows live products( This is the most important part)

    3. Share the folder and make sure in the permissions Everyone is added with Read access

    4. Restart the PC

    5. Turn on LG BD-570 and click on Home Link. At this point you will see a Desktop. Click on the desktop and CIFS login prompt will show up.

    6. In this login screen, enter the same user id and password you use to login to the PC.

    Sharing USED to work from my Windows 7 PC to my LG BD570 and stopped. I blamed LG thinking it was a firmware update that broke it.

    I spent hours trying to fix it.  All forum answers that I found failed until I found what worked for me-

    It turns out that a Windows update broke it.

    Go to CONTROL PANEL

    PROGRAMS AND FEATURES and uninstall "Windows Live Sign-In Assistant".

    Reboot, file sharing on the LG BD570 works again!!!

    Worked on my Windows 7 32-bit and my 64-bit installations. WOW! easy too.

    from your "computer" locate the C drive and right click, select properties.  Go to sharing tab, advance sharing and make sure share this folder box is checked.  Then go back to the LG player and select home link and for ID enter your computer name as found in the system description.  For passowrd it will be whatever you password for the unlocking the user account.  This should allow access to the network drive.

    I have an LG BD570 and an Argosy HV335t, both worked fine until out of the blue both started asking for this mysterious ID & Password to connect to my shared folders. After spending a long time on the phone with MS support and getting nowhere except them blaming Argosy an LG "I didn't bother to contact LG due to post of their lack of help", I emailed Argosy supoort and got an immediate solution. This involves editing the registry so try at your own risk. Follow the steps exactly and I hope it solves your problem as it did mine. This worked on my setup using Windows 7 Home Premium. Why MS support didn't know this I have no idea since one of their updates probably broke if in the first place.

    edit the following settings in Registry

    -Click Start button and type regedit in Search box and select regedit.exe to execute

    -Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa and change the value as follows

    -Right click on "LimitBlankPasswordUse", select Modify and change the value data to 1

    -Right click on "NoLmHash", select Modify and change the value data to 0

    -Right click on "everyoneincludesanonymous", select Modify and change value data to 1

    -Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters, right click on "restrictnullsessaccess" select Modify and change the value data to 0

    -Reboot the PC again
