How do I know what the CIFS sign is

Just seen your answer to the question of CIFS log on and password. I had the same problem

connecting my LG bluray media player with my windows 7 laptop. What you say doesn't work.

I've tried using my log in and password in place of the CIFS log in and password , nothing happens.

I've been told that Windows 7 media player has a DLNA server for which it should connect without using a password with log in information. If your Windows Media Player is set up to stream the content you want it to stream it should let the Bluray player stream the content trouble free if you're on a home network. Why doesn't it stream without log on / password details? Your answer is wrong. No use asking the manufactor (my case LG) they don't want to know! Ask Microsoft where to find the CIFS log in / password details, they refer you back to the manufactor, no use at all.

Only way now is use something like Nero Homemedia to stream your content rather than mess around with the CIFS. After saying that, I will not be beat, I will solve the puzzle one way or another and will get back as soon as I have a more valid solution.

Sorry i should have mentioned to share your folder .make sure its shared with everyone.

This does work as its working on my lg bd player.no cifs sign and no need for 3rd party server like

 nero. ps, i dont use wmp to stream either, the player has full access directly  to the files

also disable live sign in assistant,and live mesh.

I also have the LG BD570 and had the same issue. I disabled McAfee firewall and used my computer username and password as CIFS signon (same as when you start your computer) and was able to login.

I think you disabled McAfee firewall for nothing my friend. Ask this question, if McAfee firewall stopped the files from being picked up by the bluray media player then how can a third party dlna server program like Nero Homemedia link up without having the CIFS signon and password? This doesn't make sense. My logic is this, it's to do with the Network Sharing on Windows 7 media player / center. In the opened window for network sharing look down to the part where it says "devices and/or computers log in with users account and password" (or words to that effect). I say thats the problem area, make sure that part is selected otherwise you will not (how ever you try) log in on the CIFS login / password. Note as well, on the Bluray player you have in the top right corner of the CIFS login page a little box which says "remember", make sure you click that as well using the red button as indicated on the opened CIFS page. I have McAfee (BT Broadband Netplus powered by McAfee) on both my Desktop and Laptop computers, I find that if there is any problem the program itself asks you for permission to allow "either temp, perm or block". Others are saying remove windows live sign on assistant, why? It has nothing to do with streaming. Let me know if this solves the problem for you rather than putting your computer at risk for not having your firewall on.

I have also figured out another thing concerning streaming to the LG bluray media player. In the Network sharing page there is a selection part which says " devices and/or computers log in with users account and password" (or words to that effect). I'm thinking that this is what's making the problem of the CIFS login / password page not login with your User account /password. It's all to do with security theses days with Windows 7. I'm with you when you use another DLNA server program "like Homemedia" , I've tried one called TVmobili, it's free from their website and best of all, if you have friends who you want to share any folders with (music, video, photo's etc) there's an easy link for them to link up with your media sharing folder. Worth a try Cams, see what your think.
