How do I know what the CIFS sign is

Greetings! I just bought one of those networkable blu ray players... I have access to my portable network drive and thus are able to watch downloaded movies... Could you define  how to log in to my  network ... the bluray player asks for a "cifs sign in" in order to stream from my laptop... In lamen terms... I dont know what would the CIFS siign in name would be... How do I know what it is? I cant figure out what or where it will be...

Common Internet File System (CIFS), a protocol that defines a standard for remote file access using millions of computers at a time. With CIFS, users with different platforms and computers can share files without having to install new software.

I would suggest you to contact the manufacturer of the device for CIFS sign in details, also look for the CIFS information from the user manual.

    Forget the CIFS sign in, you don't need it.

    Put in the DVD Nero Essentials 4 disk you got with your blue ray or TV  and load it to your PC, open it up and add the files you want to share.  Click start server.  Now go back to your TV or blue ray and it will connect and you will have access to all shared files, videos and music in those files.  If video will not play or you get a audio not compatible then download lg decoder (free) and you are in business.  Every time you want to share you must open Nero again and click start server.

    Your LG Blue Ray or TV will not have access to your Computer freely.  Only the files you designate in Nero Essentials 4.

    Just got a BD670, and I hit this forum looking for ideas... here is what worked for me (Win7):

    Open Windows Media Player

    There are three menu entries below the top bar: Organize, Stream, Create Playlist

    Click Stream

    Click "Automatically Allow Devices To Play My Media"

    Then through the BD670, when browsing the local network for media sources, choose the one that has the Media Player icon (not the network icon).  This will NOT be a CIFS connection, and with any luck, you'll get to a screen with folders for your music, video, pictures, etc. 

    of course, this implies that you've setup your libraries on the Win7 machine with the media player - if not, you'll just need to set that up so it knows where you're storing your media and can index it.

    once that was done, i had full access to the music library, it is pulling down album art, etc.

    I also have an BD570 and I have the following problem:

    When going to the Home Link part of the player I can't see my Windows 7 machine. I can see the media streaming icon, but that I do not want to use. Instead I want to access my shared folders without using the media streaming option. Can anyone help me?

    My LG player and my computer are on the same network of course (else is would not detect my media stream).

    thanks this worked for me.  Road runner went down one night, and I unplugged my router

    and modem to reset them.  When I turned them back on I didn't realize the setting on port 445

    had changed.  I couldn't log into the LG BD570 after a year of it working fine.  Until then I had been able to log in easily to my LG BD570 by creating

    an additional user account and password with my Windows 7 machine.  So if you

    experience this kind of sudden failure check your firewall settings first.
