How do I know what the CIFS sign is

Just seen your answer to the question of CIFS log on and password. I had the same problem

connecting my LG bluray media player with my windows 7 laptop. What you say doesn't work.

I've tried using my log in and password in place of the CIFS log in and password , nothing happens.

I've been told that Windows 7 media player has a DLNA server for which it should connect without using a password with log in information. If your Windows Media Player is set up to stream the content you want it to stream it should let the Bluray player stream the content trouble free if you're on a home network. Why doesn't it stream without log on / password details? Your answer is wrong. No use asking the manufactor (my case LG) they don't want to know! Ask Microsoft where to find the CIFS log in / password details, they refer you back to the manufactor, no use at all.

Only way now is use something like Nero Homemedia to stream your content rather than mess around with the CIFS. After saying that, I will not be beat, I will solve the puzzle one way or another and will get back as soon as I have a more valid solution.

This Works For Win 7 .An easier way to do it,rather than creating another user, is to open up LOCAL SECURiTY POLICY ,(type in sec in ya search at start it will show up in the list ), then go to ,local policies,then  go to ,security options.Once there scroll down to ,     Network access:Restrict anonymous access to Named Pipes and shares,  Disable it .  Then scroll to,        Network access:Let everyone permissions apply to anonymous users ,     Enable It.

This allowed me to access my shares from my Lg Bd player without cifs sign in.

I also disabled ms sign in helper in ie9.

Greetings! I just bought one of those networkable blu ray players... I have access to my portable network drive and thus are able to watch downloaded movies... Could you define  how to log in to my  network ... the bluray player asks for a "cifs sign in" in order to stream from my laptop... In lamen terms... I dont know what would the CIFS siign in name would be... How do I know what it is? I cant figure out what or where it will be...

1. ON YOUR BD PLAYER

2. START YOUR PC / LAPTOP  WHAT EVER YOU ARE USING

3. KEEP THE PLAYABLE VIDEO /PICTURE FILES IN C DRIVE ANY WHERE , LIKE MY DOC/DESK TOP /VIDEO ETC

4. NOW GO TO BD PLAYER CIFS SIGN IN

5. ENTER YOU USER NAME AND PASSWORD OF YOUR PC

6. SELECT THE FILES YOU WANT TO PLAY

7. ENJOY

I DID THIS IN 5 MINUTES AND ENJOYING  LG NETWORK PLAYER

It looks like the CIFS Login problem is indeed an issue with Vista and Win7 security settings. The Windows Professional and Ultimate versions can be fixed by changing security policy settings through secpol.msc. The Windows Home versions require editing the registry directly (because they do not have secpol.msc).

I went back to work trying to solve the CIFS login problem. Despite making the registry edit mentioned at the AVS Forum link above, I still couldn't get through the CIFS login screen. The problem ended up being--you're not going to believe this--the Windows Live Sign-In Assistant installed during a Windows update. Go to http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1229543&page=65 and look at post 1939. After uninstalling it (and turning off password protected sharing in the Network and Sharing Center), the BD570 opens shared folders on my win7 x64 Home Premium computer without any CIFS login prompt. No passwords set, no extra login accounts in Win7, nada. The shared folders open under Win7 the same way the did under Vista and WinXP.

Uninstalling Windows Live Sign-In Assistant fixed the problem for me.  I spent a few months trying to figure this one out.  Thanks so much!
