How do I know what the CIFS sign is

Greetings! I just bought one of those networkable blu ray players... I have access to my portable network drive and thus are able to watch downloaded movies... Could you define  how to log in to my  network ... the bluray player asks for a "cifs sign in" in order to stream from my laptop... In lamen terms... I dont know what would the CIFS siign in name would be... How do I know what it is? I cant figure out what or where it will be...

Common Internet File System (CIFS), a protocol that defines a standard for remote file access using millions of computers at a time. With CIFS, users with different platforms and computers can share files without having to install new software.

I would suggest you to contact the manufacturer of the device for CIFS sign in details, also look for the CIFS information from the user manual.

    Yusufss, you don't need your windows log on / password.

    Here's how to solve the problem, It's a conflict issue.

    Question: Do you have Windows live essentials on you computer? If so, uninstall.

    I don't know why but there's a conflict between Windows Live Sign in Assistant (part of the Windows live essentials) and LG's DNLA enabled Blu ray media players.

    Once you have done this, use a good uninstaller cleaner program ( i use a free IObit uninstaller) to clean any leftover fragments on the hard drive.

    Make sure your folders you want to link to are shared ( see you help pages on your computer), turn on your blu ray media player , click network , "hopefully" see your computer with the folders interlinked below, choose what you want to listen, watch or look at.

    Sorry mate but you are wrong.

    CIFS sign in / password is (as far as I can be sure) not your user account login /password.

    I've tried your method without success, I've even tried using my user account login name with the Homegroup password ( when you set up Homegroup you are allocated a password to use on any other Windows 7 OS computer you want to connect to share files with.) no joy.

    After saying that, from what I can gather most of the third party DNLA server software is better anyway. One's like Homemedia from Nero or try the Tvmobili software (free from their website) to broadcast your media from your computer to the bluray media player. This software will even let you give access to your friends via the shared files outlet. I've tried this and it works a treat.
