How do I know what the CIFS sign is

Greetings! I just bought one of those networkable blu ray players... I have access to my portable network drive and thus are able to watch downloaded movies... Could you define  how to log in to my  network ... the bluray player asks for a "cifs sign in" in order to stream from my laptop... In lamen terms... I dont know what would the CIFS siign in name would be... How do I know what it is? I cant figure out what or where it will be...

Common Internet File System (CIFS), a protocol that defines a standard for remote file access using millions of computers at a time. With CIFS, users with different platforms and computers can share files without having to install new software.

I would suggest you to contact the manufacturer of the device for CIFS sign in details, also look for the CIFS information from the user manual.

    Thanks alot, after messing with this all day long and getting frustrated to no end, I finally came across your helpful tip & things worked out just fine. I hope this movie Safe House downloaded from the web is well worth my trouble, but if it's not now that I know what I am doing I can stream movies & enjoy.  Much Appreciation :)

    Hi Guys I was able to find out what the problem was I got a log-in name on my laptop comp. and also a password.

    when you get to the CIFS screen and you are asked for the user name and password it will be the same as the one for your computer.

    Good Luck, it is that easy.

    CIFS IS THE SAME AS YOUR LOG IN NAME AND PASSWORD THAT YOU USE TO START YOUR LAPTOP OR DESKTOP...

    FOR EXAMPLE:  IF YOUR LOGIN NAME IS: KITTYCAT

                                AND YOUR PASWORD IS: LOVECATS1

    THIS IS THE CIFS LOGIN NAME AND PASSWORD ON ALL OTHER DEVICES YOU BUY IN THE FURTURE THAT YOU CONNECT AND TRY TO ACCESS FILES ON YOUR PC, UNLESS YOU CHANGE YOUR LOGIN NAME AND PASSWORD ON YOUR COMPUTER...

    AND NOW YOU KNOW, AND KNOWING IS HALF THE BATTLE...LOL
