How do I know what the CIFS sign is

Greetings! I just bought one of those networkable blu ray players... I have access to my portable network drive and thus are able to watch downloaded movies... Could you define  how to log in to my  network ... the bluray player asks for a "cifs sign in" in order to stream from my laptop... In lamen terms... I dont know what would the CIFS siign in name would be... How do I know what it is? I cant figure out what or where it will be...

Common Internet File System (CIFS), a protocol that defines a standard for remote file access using millions of computers at a time. With CIFS, users with different platforms and computers can share files without having to install new software.

I would suggest you to contact the manufacturer of the device for CIFS sign in details, also look for the CIFS information from the user manual.

    Hi,

     

    I just figured it out. All you need to do are the following steps:

    1- create a user on your computer (from the control panel, user management). For example: username: guest , password: whatever

    2- share the drive that has the media you would like to play and give the user guest access to it.

    3- Go to your Blue Ray player, when it asks for CIFS login enter the guest user information.

    Voila! It should show the folder under your servername and you can play files.

    Hi, Ihave the BD572 and used the Nero MediaHome Essentials dics whic came with the player and that seemed to work. Under servers I have a Windows logo with my pc's name and  a generic pc logo with my pc's name. The server with the windows logo allows me acces to my files, while the other gives me the CIFS BS! Hope this helps!

    yes same problem.  Is this a windows  security to check who is accessing my pc or a code in the BD570 box.

    The idiots at LG have no idea. !

    if it MS then it has nothing to do with LG. the makeer of the blu ray boxes. ?  where is this a nothing in the manual about it.

    they know nothing so must be checking with windows 7 on the authorization to get to my pc ?
