Can I delete the system reserved partition from 100MB

Is there a possibility to install windows 7 (clean install) without making a extra (hidden) partition "system reserved" from 100mb?

or how can I delete this partition after install ?

Why is it for?

I have the meaning that this slows down my hard drive a little ?

Hi Johan G,

Thanks for posting to Getting Ready for Windows 7 .

The 100MB partition is a system partition and contains boot files. Disk Manager will not allow you to remove this partition because removing this partition could cause the system to not boot.

    Sure it is.  People get fixated on doing the wrong things all the time.

    100 MB is a drop in the bucket.  The data in it may be needed when you have a system problem and/or need to recover from a failure.

    Leave it alone.  It's not hurting anything, it's not taking an appreciable amount of space, and it's not slowing anything down.  If the system is fighting your removing it, there's a reason.

    I'm really surprised that you're getting so worried about such a small amount of disk.

    If the Windows folder took up an extra 100MB, you wouldn't even notice.

    On a fairly small system (100GB) that would be 1/10 of 1% of your disk.  On a decent system it's .00001 of your disk.

    Get a grip, it's not worth worrying about, much less risking a system that won't boot!

    As part of my job I deploy Full Disk Encryption which does not support 'Hiden Partitions' on any disks to be Encrypted, as such, what may seem as a trivial issue can become a nightmare.

    In these cases we have to completely flatten the volume and re-install Windows 7 bypassing the need for the 100MB partition by force on install so that it keeps things nice and simple and a single partition as in days gone by. I have no idea why Microsoft went down this route but it is certain to cause ongoing problems in the future without a doubt and until we can find a way to redeploy the boot partition into the system volume partition the headaches will continue!

    The link posted by BurrWalnut above explains what is happening with this partition and why it is created. Apparently only affects the versions of Windows 7 that have Bitlocker. Preformatting the drive before installing Win7Pro/Ult/Enterprise is one workaround or it can be removed if Bitlocker is not going to be used (details at the link).
