Can I delete the system reserved partition from 100MB

Recently working on a Gateway NV5378U or more commonly know as a NV53. It is a reconditioned laptop. Computer was brought to me eratic operation. Installed anti malware program and anti virus programs. Found many issues and tried to expunge them from the system. Unfortunately it resulted in a computer that would not boot. Did some reading and found out how to get into recovery mode and did a complete factory re installation (destructive) as it reformats the hard drive before installing.

Computer booted up and did all its reinstallation process. Everything was looking good until I went out to do the Udates to the operating System (to get it to SP1). It said there were 171 updates and I let it run thru its steps. When the computer went to boot up it would not and had the computer could not boot and went into disk repair mode. Spent 5 or so minutes and finally said problem could not be repaired automatically. Turned computer off and then back on and computer started normally. Went to Windows Update to see what had been installed and after waiting over 2 hours most of the updates had failed (probably over 130 failed). System would run but just had small nuances where it was glichy.

I deducted that somehow the reformating under the destructive reinstallation had not worked properly and some remain code was causing a problem. Took a Linux based disk Hiren's Boot CD v15.x and ran it.

Used a program Called Parted Magic v2.2. At the destop I clicked on partition editor. The editor showed 3 partitions. 1st a boot diag partition 0, 2nd a 100mb active partion system reserved, 3rd a 453gb drive labeled gateway.

Most generally Windows want to be the primary 0 boot partition. Someone went out of their way to engineer this nightmare. I suspect it was a security design to prevent root-kit viruses or what ever. Anyway I high lighted the 100 mb partition and reformated it 3 times to ensure that anything there was gone or overwritten. I then high lited the 453gig main partition and deleted it. I then clicked on the blank area which was 100mb + 453gb area making it one, and then reformatted it to ntsf 2 times. Then cliced on the newly made partion and went into the partition manage flag and clicked on boot. I then ran the gateway reinstallation and went thru the setup procedure. Then went into Windows update and ehaustively did all the update. Everything work perfect.

So yes you can delete and remove the partion. Probably could have just reformated the 100mb and the 453gb logical drives then used merge partition under the PMagic program. I wanted to eliminate the problem beyond any possible residual code interfering with the new install.

to get rid of the 100 mb drive use something like Hirens which can access the structure of the partitioning scheme outside of windows and just delete it.

I eventually found out how to clean up the invisible logging files and turn off logging on the reserved partition.  What BUGS me is that this BUG is apparently very well known, and IF you know how takes only minutes to fix.  I'm guessing that Microsoft could 1. fix whatever causes this mystery logging no one asks for, 2. Fix the directory and partitioning tools in Windows to show where the space is going 2, 3. Create a fixit that turns off and removes the logging and cleans up the mess.  For the life of me I don't understand why MS doesn't just fix this, even partially.  As someone who has been in IT for over 40 years, it boggles the mind that something this easy to fix is being ignored by MS - and when someone posts here with the problem, MS doesn't just out and say what to do to fix it.
