You mean the Task Bar disappeared, not the *toolbar*?

There are several possibilities for why. Here's the most likely:

The task bar is resizable, like a window. You may have accidentally

resized it to zero lines high. Put the cursor on the bottom of the

screen and move it up and down slightly until it turns into a

double-headed arrow. Then click and drag it to the size you want.

If that doesn't work, it may be zero lines high on another side of the

screen, so try on all four sides.

Finally, if none of those work, go to

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp\_abc.htm, click T, then under

Taskbar, click Taskbar is Missing.

Hello,

As per description, your issue has been resolved, however you are looking for an alternative solutions.

You may face this issue due to several reasons:

  1. The taskbar may be hiding at the bottom of the screen after being accidentally resized.
  2. If the presentation display was changed, the taskbar may have moved off of the visible screen.
  3. The 'explorer.exe' process may have crashed.

I would suggest you to follow the methods given below and check.

Method 1: Follow the steps given below.

Step 1: Put the mouse pointer on the bottom border of your screen.

  1. If the pointer turns into a double-arrow , click and drag upwards.
  2. If your taskbar isn't hiding at the bottom of the screen, try moving the mouse to the right, left, and top edges, looking for the double-arrow.

Step 2: Press the Windows logo key and the P key on your keyboard to bring up the presentation display mode options.

  1. 1.Make sure "Computer Only" is selected.
  2. Use the arrow keys to toggle between options and Enter to select the correct display mode.

If issue still persists try method 2.

Method 2: System File Checker.

You may run the system file checker tool and check if it helps. SFC scan will scan for the corrupted system files on the computer. You may refer to the following article in order to use System File Checker tool appropriately.

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files.

Of all the responses this resolution actually restored my taskbar. THANKS! As far as my unique situation I have been using this particular WIN764BITHOMEPREM installed laptop for a little under a year and this the first time this has happened. The factor that sticks out to me is I recently installed some "aged" screensavers (WINXP/VISTA 32BIT vers). Upon returning from the screen saver state was the first instance of the tool bar disappearing. Of course logging off or restarting resolved the issue but when the SS would come back on viola! the tool bar dropped the ball and ran off (reminded me of good ol' WIN95 and blue screen). So to resolve I removed the obviously incompatiable 32BIT SS software from my 64BIT machine. So far no more issues. Nevertheless I did create a restore point and ran a full virus scan just to be on the safe side.
