Insufficient memory or disk space, cannot display the requested font; Outlook fonts garbled

After I've been using Word and Outlook for a while, I receive the following message: there is insufficient memory or disk space. Word cannot display the requested font. Once I get this error message, my fonts are garbled in both Word and Outlook.

I am running Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium, with Office 2007. I have 4 GB RAM, with settings set on automatic (Windows detects).

I am not a power user. I have Googled and searched Microsoft help, to no avail.

My brand new computer is becoming almost unusable! Please help.

kimlife,

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers community forum.

There are a couple of things that can cause this.  One is a corrupted normal.dot template, one is a corrupted printer driver, and the other would be some sort of third part add in.  So let's start witht he simplest to try and that is replacing the normal.dot template.

Click on Start, go to Search, and in the Search box type normal.dot.  There should be a search option that you can check for 'search hidden files', make sure that is checked.  If it does not find it, try searching for *.dot.  It may be hard to find because it is a hidden file.  You may have to go into folder options and be sure "show hidden files" is checked.  Whenever you find normal.dot, rename it old.dot and restart your computer.  Open Word and it will create a new normal.dot template, which is what Word uses as a default blank document.

If that does not work, read this article about a third party add in that can cause this issue:

Let us know how that works out and if you need additional help.

Thank you,

Gloria

    Hi All

I'm having very similar problems to those listed on here, with the main issues being word hanging/not responding and when I do eventually get to the print dialogue box, receive the "insufficient memory or disk space" error message.

I'm using Windows 8.1 on a HP-255 G1 and I've tried all of the following:-

    1. Replaced the normal.dot file several times.
    2. Repairing the Microsoft program.
    3. Deleting the re-adding the printer several times.
    4. Tried changing the fonts back to the defaults but "OK" is greyed out.
    5. Deleted all the existing fonts and replaced with the default Windows 8.1 fonts.

I'm losing the will to live as I work on my laptop all day and I'm struggling to cope with the time it is taking to decide whether or not it's going to print.  Neither do I really have to time to leave my laptop with computer repairers whilst they find out what the issue is and repair it.

Went through the stage over the weekend of the laptop not booting at all. Managed to start in safe mode eventually after I had disabled my AVG anti-virus. Thankfully, it is working again now, but the hanging/printing problems remain.

I'm wondering if the recent installation of pdf creator had anything to do with it (i.e. perhaps adding additional fonts), although everything worked OK for a while and I can't pin-point exactly when things started to go wrong!

Gratefully appreciate any help anyone is able to suggest.

    Hi,

Im running 7 on a new CPU. Used to have this problem, as "Normal.dot" didn't exist for me. However, Simply 1.

Open Microsoft create "Old.dot" in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\1033\QuickStyles\office\ (Default place for '*.dot' templates). Reboot

Thank you! worked like a charm.

    Very Much Thanks. It HelpFull

I had this error in Windows 10 whenever i opened the Mail app to read Hotmail and tried all these methods without success. The good news is that the issue was resolved when I installed the 1511 upgrade to Windows 10.

Had this problem after Win 10 update on two computers, both had been upgraded from Win8.1 to Win 10, and the printer worked fine (after a driver update). Then did a Win 10 update and the problem you describe occurred. After tearing out a lot of hair, I eventually got rid of the printer driver as follows:

    Settings

    Printers

Click on your printer to remove device (will come up are you sure, answer yes)

When printer has gone , click add printer, your old driver should re appear, click install.

    Your original driver should reload.

And hopefully "Bobs your uncle" it should work

I have done this on my two laptops and solved the issue on both

    Best of luck
