How to disable auto arrange in Windows 7 Explorer?

Why does Microsoft have to decide how I want my personal stuff organized?I want them organized the way I want!We wouldnt pay 300 for someone to take decision for us.I wonder if you are going to change the Pc acronym for Personal Computer to IBTMN-C aka I belong to Microsoft now computer.I want my folders arranged the way I like.I want to change the row the way i feel like to everyday.Just fix it.What made you remove this??Which advisor told you it is not needed?Who doesnt use this feature??Windows is based on manual arrange.Nice Idea WELL DONE

Welcome to Microsoft Answers!

As this is by design of the Windows 7 Operating system, we cannot disable the Auto arrange.

The change in Windows 7 is by design however, if this is something you would like this feature reinstated, please submit your suggestion to:

    Hi everyone who is still having problems with the Photo "drag and drop" issue.   On Jan. 11th, 2010 ONHOM suggested that we download ACDSee- which is a specific program for Photo arranging.  I didn't understand what he was talking about.   Now I do.     A couple of weeks ago I asked our family friend to come down and help me.   He put in ACDSee and all my photos were transferred to that program. He put an Icon on my desktop, so that when I wanted to add, view and or arrange the photos all I have to do is click the Icon.  It works wonderful.  Thanks to ONHOM for suggesting this so many months ago-8 months to be exact.  Wish I would have asked our friend to come and help out this your suggestion all those months ago.  Thanks again, ONHOM.

    I agree with everyone who is disgusted with this auto-arrange problem in windows 7. I've also had problems with backing up my files to my CD-DVD drive. It won't do it! I have tried and tried and spent hours on the phone with HP and it seems like they know the problem exist but don't have a clue how to fix it. I'm not the only one with this problem or the only brand I found out in one of these forums. the drag and drop system of organizing file IS THE ONLY WAY to organize your personal files and photos. I'm glad only because I have found out others are having woes. I'm thinking about buying a new platform. Really disgusted!!

    But it is possible to disable auto arrange mode in windows 7 explorer - like it was in Vista: **Free arrange of files in Windows 7**

    1. If you are viewing a folder and expand it in the left pane to show it's subfolders, the folder is annoyingly auto-scrolled to the bottom of the pane causing all the subfolders to not be shown. Windows Explorer in XP did not behave in this way, and was much easier to work with.
    2. The option to remove "Full row selection" for details view. "Full row selection" is very annoying when the folder is full and has no free space to click on, also when dragging/dropping to folders with many subfolders or .exe/.zip/.rar files

    These two annoying ways of behaviour caused me to feel very restricted and annoyed without realizing what was missing when I first started using Win7

    I reported number 8. As for number 7 i disabled the option of “Expand to current folder” however if you choose the size of the icons as shown here then you will have some space between icons
