How to fix "Windows Photo Gallery has stopped working" ?

Windows photo gallery is one of several programs I use while working with my photo files and I find it useful, is some instances more than the expensive programs. But it has stopped working and I'm looking for a fix, preferably without having to reinstall the operating system and having to reload everything on my hard drive. Anyone have any suggestions? I can still open files and edit them, just can't "go to the gallery".

Hi Photofan,

Do you have another user account that you can try Windows Photo Gallery and see if you get the same error message? If you do try it with another account and don't get the message try going through the following steps and see if it resolves your issue.

1. Click the Start orb

2. Type folder options in the Start Search box, and click the Folder Options program

3. Select the View tab

4. In the Advanced Settings window, underneath Hidden files and folders, select Show hidden files and folders

5. Click OK

6. Navigate to the following folder ( %user% is the name of the account having the problem):

C:\Users%user%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Photo Gallery

7. Copy any files in here to another location as a back up and then delete them from the Windows Photo Gallery directory

Once the files are deleted, try to start Windows Photo Gallery.

After that go back in to folder options and select Do not show hidden files and folders

I know this was posted a while ago but it helped allot and thanks do you have any other suggestions on any other things I can run to fix my computer I am having allot of problems when I try to go in and set up a new folder for pictures it brings up everything but a folder?????????

SINCE YOU ARE EXPERIENCING SOME DIFFICULTY LAUNCHING YOUR PHOTOS USING WINDOWS LIVE PHOTO GALLERY....

After an hour of trying to fix this... I would say that it's been a blessing to come across one of these "helpful" forum posts.

The EASIEST way to do this.. is:

Step 1: Click the "Start" button

Step 2: Click "Control Panel"

Step 3: Click "Programs - Uninstall a program"

Step 4: Click "Windows Live Essentials" and then right-click "Uninstall"

Once you have clicked "Uninstall", a window will pop-up that will either confirm the action or will give you the option to click "Uninstall the program" or "Repair the program".

Step 5: CLICK the option "REPAIR" then click "ok"

Step 6: Wait for it to load 100%

Once the repair process is complete, it will show the summary of all "Windows Live Essentials" components. You may read the information.

Step 7: RESTART YOUR COMPUTER !!!

To be honest, I hate posting these things up because I really do not have the patient for it.

But I have been blessed to find this "terrific" solution..and its only right to pass the blessing. I hope this solution works for you as well...

There is an automated Windows Photo Gallery troubleshooter that can fix this problem automatically, worth a try. Hope it solves your problem.
