ipconfig media disconnected

using windows 7 command prompt, I keep getting media disconnected, how can I get my IP ?

Hi spitfire46,

a) Are you using a desktop or a laptop?

Make sure that the WLAN switch is turned on.

For Windows 7, you may try the following commands.

  1. Click Start
  2. All Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt
  3. Select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following commands, each followed by the Enter key:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine. This should help.

Later try to get the IP address, you will get it.

    Hello Azeez Nadeem

    I have been following your instructions concerning the gateway dropping.  I have reset the Comcast Gateway, I have done the ipconfig instructions.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled  the Mini WIFI adapter as well as the Ralink adapter.  I am now having trouble with the above directions when I put in netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log I received There's no user specified settings to be reset.  I am currently directly hardwired to gateway!  Please help!!!  I am using a HP laptop with windows 7.

    I, too, am having the same issues and have followed all advise to this point given.

    This only happened after the last Windows Update was installed on my system. It was working fine until I restarted my computer after the update.

    Now I cannot connect to internet via the LAN or WAN that I have setup in my house. I have about 10 other devices currently connected, but for some reason my personal laptop keeps giving me the Media Disconnected error when trying to connect up.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Also, how are we to get the newest fix for this via Windows Update if we cannot connect our devices to the internet to download?

    Under the network adapter tab I have two choices: Intel (R) wifi  link 5100 AGN

    & Realtek RTL8168C(P)/811CP FAMILY. Which one to I uninstall? I have tried EVERYTHING and

    still not internet connection. Any help to get it up will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!
