using windows 7 command prompt, I keep getting media disconnected, how can I get my IP ?

Hi spitfire46,

a) Are you using a desktop or a laptop?

Make sure that the WLAN switch is turned on.

For Windows 7, you may try the following commands.

  1. Click Start
  2. All Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt
  3. Select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following commands, each followed by the Enter key:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine. This should help.

Later try to get the IP address, you will get it.

    People this really  work but please read carefully before do anything. and do exactly as he said.

    Hi Azeez, I have been trying to sort out this problem on my laptop for 2 - 3 days now and it's driving me mental.. Please help.

    I am trying to fix a friends Laptop, it is a:

    Dell Latitude D630, with

    Windows XP installed.

    I am on Virgin broadband and have a great connection from my own laptop, but keep getting the 'media disconnected' message.

    Should i need a removable network card, there's a slot in the side of this laptop??

    Not dealt with laptop like this for a long while.

    Hello Azeez,

    When I did the netsh codes on my desktop, it said (for the ipv6 code) "There's no user specified settings to be reset." The other two codes worked fine. Also the laptop I am currently using was fixed with your solution (using an internat wireless adapter), but my desktop isn't. My desktop is connected wirelessly through a USB Wifi adapter.
