using windows 7 command prompt, I keep getting media disconnected, how can I get my IP ?

Hi spitfire46,

a) Are you using a desktop or a laptop?

Make sure that the WLAN switch is turned on.

For Windows 7, you may try the following commands.

  1. Click Start
  2. All Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt
  3. Select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following commands, each followed by the Enter key:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine. This should help.

Later try to get the IP address, you will get it.

    "there is no user specified settings to be reset" occurs when i typed and entered netsh ipv6 command. above all worked but ipv6 send above error... i have same problem my net is not working media disconnected.

    Seems a lot of you have tried this procedure over & over again:

    Have you tried uninstalling / reinstalling your Network Interface Card driver?

    I don't know why tech's do not mention this little procedure, but if all else fails, that is the first thing I do and advised my customers to do and it always seemed to straighten out.

    BUT DO NOT UNINSTALL IT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE DRIVER TO REINSTALL IT.

    Usually Windows picks it up and reinstalls it after reboot, but it has happened that it didn't so better safe than sorry...get the driver before doing this. (just sayin')

    While trying to run the netsh to reset the ip address while in administer cmd it says access denied ive tried the rest of the options in this thread but i still have no Connection-specific DNS suffix my ip addresses have been changed from what they were yesterday and my media state is still disconnected and it will also not let me upload a picture does anyone have an idea that could fix this? I have online school i need to attend too
