using windows 7 command prompt, I keep getting media disconnected, how can I get my IP ?

Hi spitfire46,

a) Are you using a desktop or a laptop?

Make sure that the WLAN switch is turned on.

For Windows 7, you may try the following commands.

  1. Click Start
  2. All Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt
  3. Select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following commands, each followed by the Enter key:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine. This should help.

Later try to get the IP address, you will get it.

    Hi azeez, I've had the same problem.

    The solution you offered (the netsh codes) seems to usuaclly for me but I have to do it each time the computer boots up. Can you recommend anything else further?

    Hi spitfire46,

    Do you have a wired connection or a wireless connection?

    If feasible, try connection the ethernet wire and try the ip address.

    If using a wirless connection, follow thw below suggestions:

    Boot your computer in Safe Mode with Networking and try to get your ip address.  (Make sure wireless network related service is manually enabled) Safe Mode with Networking may or may not work if its wireless .

    Safe Mode with Networking starts Windows in safe mode and includes the network drivers and services needed to access the Internet or other computers on your network.

    Refer the following Microsoft article for more information on how to log in to safe mode:

    Advanced startup options (including safe mode)

    Note: Put your computer back to normal mode after the trail.

    If that does not help, uninstall and reinstall network adapters in normal mode.

    To uninstall the wireless connection from Device Manager,

    1. Click Start, type Device Manager in the Start search box and hit Enter.
    2. Locate Network adapters and expand the same.
    3. Select the wireless connection, right-click and select Uninstall.
    4. Restart the computer, if prompted.

    Drivers should get installed after restarting the computer. If it does not, you would have to install the latest driver from manufacturer's website.

    Note: Make sure you download the latest wireless network adapter drivers before uninstalling the same.

    Azeez,  I tried a number of times your suggestion,  but I still keep getting "media disconnected" on Windows 7 but on Windows XP, no problem, I get my IP and remote access to my webcam.

    I am using a desktop.   Thank you for your assistance.
