using windows 7 command prompt, I keep getting media disconnected, how can I get my IP ?

Hi spitfire46,

a) Are you using a desktop or a laptop?

Make sure that the WLAN switch is turned on.

For Windows 7, you may try the following commands.

  1. Click Start
  2. All Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt
  3. Select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following commands, each followed by the Enter key:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine. This should help.

Later try to get the IP address, you will get it.

    I am not able to connect to my Wifi. It says Not connected Connections available when I hover over the symbol.

    I have been in touch with Microsoft Support on Twitter. I tried doing a Wlan Report and ipconfig. I cannot find my IP address when I did that. I've tried updating/uninstalling my Network adapters. The last thing they told me to do for this was

      Run these commands:

            netsh winsock reset catalog

            netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

            netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

        Reboot your PC.

    After telling them that it failed at resetting both IPv4 + 6, they gave me the Support Number. Apparently lots of people are having problems due to the large call volume.

    The only thing I haven't messed with is firewall. Not sure that's the issue or will help.

    when i type the above code it says 

    Invalid Parameter(s) 

    RESET < SESSION > 

    what to do now??

    Has anyone ever tried to just disable the connection, then re-enable it?
