How can I stop WUAUSERV?

net stop wuauserv

The service is starting or stoping. Please try again later.

Never stops.

Product: Microsoft Fix it 50202 -- Error 1921. Service 'Windows Update' (WUAUSERV) could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services.

I stop WUAUSERV to delete the contents in my "Software Distributions" folder. I do that when I am having problems when downloading and installing Apps from the Windows Store. 

The Proper way to do it is as follows:

Command prompt

net stop wuauserv

net stop bits

Go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution

Delete all the contents

Return to "Command Prompt"

net start wuauserv

net start bits

That should fix your problem.

    I have this same problem and this did not work.  I still get the message that wuauserv is stopping or starting.  I am signed in as admin.

    Any Ideals?

    I got the same problem, then I solve it.

    It's easy!.

    Try this!!

    1. Boot computer with safe mode.
    2. Delete "SoftwareDistribution" folder(c:/windows/)

    3.also delete "catroot2" folder(c:/windows/system32/)

    1. Turn off your computer.
    2. Turn on your computer with regular mode.
    3. Chech up windows update. It might be work!!

    Hope this work!!

    Windows Repair is an outside program.

    Does Microsoft consider it safe?
