How to Install .net framework 1.1 in Windows 7 64-bit?

Net framework 1.1 incompatible and will not run in Windows 7 64-bit. I desperately need the program to work, and it is dependent on 1.1 being installed.

This has been known forever, from Vista through to Windows 7.

The solution to it is simple, and was posted on mydigitallife website ages ago (do a search for "mydigitallife net 1.1").

Otherwise here is a a copy/paste to install .Net 1.1 and SP1 into Vista or Win7 (32 or 64 bit).

  1. Create a new folder named **DotNet**in C:\ drive (C:\DotNet is used in this guide, you can change to any folder you prefer, but ensure that you use correct path in the following steps).
  2. Download Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Redistributable Package (dotnetfx.exe ). Make sure the setup file is saved asdotnetfx.exe .
  3. Download Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe ). Make sure that the file is renamed and saved asdotnetfxsp1.exe , so that the rest of the steps can be followed easily.
  4. Move both installation files into the same directory (i.e. C:\DotNet), if you’re not saving them together.
  5. Open command prompt as Administrator .
  6. Change to the directory where the two installation setup files for .NET 1.1 are saved (i.e. C:\DotNet).
  7. Run the following commands one by one, press Enter after each one.
    • dotnetfx.exe /c:"msiexec.exe /a netfx.msi TARGETDIR=C:\DotNet"
    • Then click on “Yes” when prompted to answer “would you like to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1. Package?”
    • dotnetfxsp1.exe /Xp:C:\DotNet\netfxsp.msp
    • msiexec.exe /a c:\DotNet\netfx.msi /p c:\DotNet\netfxsp.msp

Install Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 with slipstreamed/integrated Service Pack 1 by running netfx.msi created in the working folder.

To Stop the Dot  Net  installation Errors Pl follow the following Instructions. It Will b helpful 4 u.

  1. Go to Command Prompt by running CMD as Administrator then do the following

a.  Type  Net stop wuauserv

b. Goto Windows Directory Rename  the software Distribution folder into software DistributionOLD

c. Restart the PC

d.  Now Install  dot net

After the successful Installation Run the Following 

e. Net start wuauserv

                                           Good Luck ...!

Here's the sequence to install .NET Framework 1.1, Service Pack 1 and  patches on Windows 7 if your application requires .NET 1.1 runtime.

dotnetfx.exe (Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=262D25E3-F589-4842-8157-034D1E7CF3A3&displaylang=en

NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe /Q /L:c:\Net11-sp1-KB867460.log

NDP1.1sp1-KB891865-X86.exe /Q /L:c:\Net11-sp1-KB891865.log

NDP1.1sp1-KB886903-X86.exe /Q /L:c:\Net11-sp1-KB886903.log

All the .NET Framework versions can live side by side.  Microsoft .NET 1.1 extended support retied on 10/8/2013http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/search/Default.aspx?sort=PN&alpha=.NET+Framework

    The MS .NET 3.5 package includes 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5.  It explicitly does NOT include .NET 1.1.  While later versions of .net offer a superset of previous .net frameworks, they do not support the runtime environment, which is what they need.  Applications would have to be recompiled from the original source after being re-targeted to later versions of the .net CLR assembly framework.

    And, FYI, we have a large government agency who is moving to Windows 7, which will be *much* more painful because of MS not continuing to support previous frameworks.  But that's just some pain we'll have to deal with.

    The problem most people have is not the game/application itself but the fact that you sometimes cant install the damn 1.1 framework onto your Windows installation. I encountered the same problem with Lord of The Rings Online today, and when i tried to install the framework (bypassing incompatability warning) it kinda installed almost till the end and then gave me this warning:

    [Quote]Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

    Process id=0xef8 (3832), Thread id=0xefc (3836).

    Click OK to terminate the application.

    Click CANCEL to debug the application.[/quote]

    Last time i encountered this problem i had to reinstall my Windows 7 x64 (because of some other problem) and after the Windows installation i was able to install 1.1 framework on to a bare install of Windows 7x64. 

    Now my question is why the ____ does it install on a bare Windows 7 but not on a copy with installed drivers and applications?

    And why for the love of god would someone in 2010 want to push framework 1.1 for their APP!!!???

    The only thing i can think of is somehow bypassing the damn LOTRO launcher which is the obvious reason the game needs 1.1 framework, the only problem is you need the launcher to update the game...

    I can also confirm what Michael said, that none of the workarounds work at the moment.
