Error Code 1-80004005

Error Code 1-80004005 after reinstalling FSX on Vista. Activation form doesn't load therefore, there's no way to activate it. Observed several discussions on this using Google searches but never found a specific answer. Have tried the FSX installation DVD Repair option but no help there.

Well, I seemed to have fixed this myself. After reading through http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960481, I saw the mention of uninstalling FSX SP2 but for a different problem. I went to the control panel and under programs and features I found that it didn't show the FSX program nor SP1 but did show FSX SP2. So I uninstalled SP2. After that and just for the heck of it I thought I would try to fire up FSX and viola! the first thing that appeared was the activation form that I was unable to get earlier. I filled in the key code from my box, was accepted and now I appear to be running OK. I still haven't reinstalled SP2 yet as I am still flying around and resetting my settings that I had originally.

    If you downloaded Gold edition from Microsoft as I did and ran into this problem I have found a solution to be a combiniation of other suggestions. I am running on Windows 7 so ignore or alter where appropriate.

    1. Go into the FSX folder under Microsoft Games on your hard drive and find the fsx.exe. Right click and select properties. Make sure the Run in Compatibility box is not checked under the appropriate tab.
    2. Open Games for Windows Marketplace under Games and sign in. Under the downloads tab find the game and click on it once to expand. You should see the View Game Keys option pop up. Click o expand the key tab and write this key down or prepare to copy and paste.
    3. Edit the registry as instructed in other posts under this thread so that the activation (product key prompt) window will appear.
    4. run regedit (Windowskey +R)
    5. Expand the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTRO L\CLASS{4D36E967-

    E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    1. After you find the folder, double-click Upperfilters on the right side.
    2. Change the value from 0 to PartMgr and/or remove any other settings and then click OK.
    3. Close Registry Editor
    4. Start FSX/Accel and you should get the registration wizard. 

     Copy and paste or otherwise enter the product key.

    Activation worked for me using this method. Hope it helps to summarize and solve the problem for some of you as well.

    Note: My registry entry was only two lines; excsd and PartMgr. I deleted excsd in order to get the registration to go through and then put it back afterwards. Not sure how or what effects leaving it out would be but my game worked fine after putting it back. Good luck all!

    Worked a treat, cheers for that, I had MPDMGMT as well as PartMgr, and when I cleared that first one out to just leave PartMgr, the activation screen then came up. Thanks so much for that. Cheers.

    1. run regedit (Windowskey +R)

    I have a similar 'Trial Period reactivation' problem despite my FXS Gold (SP1, SP2, Acceleration) having been installed several months ago. I applied the above procedure but when I get to the Upperfilters dialogue box I find that the value is already 'PartMgr'. Is there any other way to provoke the Registration Wizard to activate?
