Hello - can anyone help me find a solution to my problem?

My problem:Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing or corrupt. Status:Oxc000014C

I tried everything the sytem advised from going through safe mode etc.. I also attempted to reload my OS - which was last updated via windows update site. However, it did not work - probably because of all the updates from MS which meant that it would not load from the DVD.

It was a completely new custom system with MS Vista Untimate 64 bit, Office 2007, Asus MB, 250 GB HD ATI video card. I was using Vista for almost a year and had no probelm prior to today. All original software.

I have my thesis and several files I was working on for someone -  I was doing some consulting work for to supplement my income as a student.. Unfortunately, when I last used my system last night it was ok. Now I canot get my system to work.

I ended up contacting Microsoft directly and they were able to get my system up and running without me losing any of the data. Hooray for Microsoft!

My system is back to normal and I am making sure all my files are backed up on DVD's.

    Hey I just had this problem last night. It was wierd because my computer was working like 3 hours before. What I did was run a program on it called spinrite. What it did was found a section of my harddrive that had been corrupted which I am supposing is where the registry was, it repaired this section and now my computer loads and runs just fine. Take a look into it if you want at grc.com

    Had the same problem with Windows Vista Home Basic SP1 - "Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing or corrupt"- Status: Oxc0000223.

    I've had the software for only 1 month and MS helpdesk wanted to charge $59 for a "ONE" time tech assistance. Ridiculous!! I'd also appreciate anyone helping

    I have the same message on my Sony Vaio laptop.  I am not able to load discs, as my laptop didn't come with the discs, you have to be able to get into safe made and go through the help system to burn the discs, and I am unable to get it to open in a safe mode. (I've haqd to do this once before because a windows update disabled my sound card and I could not restore the sounds, and was able to get into safe mode and burn my system restore discs without any problem)

    the screen with that error message came up and it gave me the options to hit enter to continue or esc to quit, and I hit enter and then hit F8 and then scrolled down and tried to start it in directory services restore mode and teh debugging mode.

    Is there anything else I can try get into safe mode so I can burn my discs?
