Hello - can anyone help me find a solution to my problem?
My problem:Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing or corrupt. Status:Oxc000014C
I tried everything the sytem advised from going through safe mode etc.. I also attempted to reload my OS - which was last updated via windows update site. However, it did not work - probably because of all the updates from MS which meant that it would not load from the DVD.
It was a completely new custom system with MS Vista Untimate 64 bit, Office 2007, Asus MB, 250 GB HD ATI video card. I was using Vista for almost a year and had no probelm prior to today. All original software.
I have my thesis and several files I was working on for someone - I was doing some consulting work for to supplement my income as a student.. Unfortunately, when I last used my system last night it was ok. Now I canot get my system to work.

I ended up contacting Microsoft directly and they were able to get my system up and running without me losing any of the data. Hooray for Microsoft!
My system is back to normal and I am making sure all my files are backed up on DVD's.
I have just experienced this same problem.
My Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 (I think) had Windows Vista Business pre-installed on it because I got it on a school scheme and had to pay £5 a month for 3 years.
After 2 years, it had a virus so I wiped everything and installed a brand new Windows Vista Ultimate onto it. It was working fine. Until last week. So now, when I turn my laptop on, it says 'windows did not shut down properly'.
So then I click 'Start Windows Normally' and then this message appears:
"Windows Boot Manager
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
If you do not have this dics, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
File: \Windows\system32\config\system
Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: Windows dailed to load because the system registry file is missing, or corrupt.
ENTER=Continue ESC=Cancel"
I have very important work for my A-Levels and I need to ask if there is any chance of recovering that work.
If anyone has any solutions to my problem, please respond to this question.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, my laptop can't play any cds for some reason. So when I tried to restart the laptop with the Windows Ultimate disc in it, it just gave the same message. Plus, it won't start in any safe mode or the last successful boot attempt.
my laptop wouldn't boot up due to a missing registry file, so i reloaded the vista disc and it removed everything. Is it now all lost or is it hiding somewhere?
same here.. and when i googled it it said go to windows boot manager which i am.. and go to repair..
it doesnt HAVE REPAIR.. i clicked on restoring to prior date configuration but it still didnt work

Thanks!am having the same problems and my system will not allow a command to be entered at all at any point during start up. I have gone the method of F8 after intial start up and was directed to the BiOS menu, but from there it was like my system was not reading my keyboard. Please any other suggestions as all of the service packs have rendered my installation disk obsolete.
