I tried the "Fix it" solution in both modes and it failed to fix windows update on my system. I then looked at "How do I reset Windows Update components" in the message from MowGreen below. I have not gone through all of the manual steps, but I did notice
two interesting things. One is that msxml.dll is missing from my \windows\system32 directory. In fact, search cannot locate it anywhere on my machine. The other is that based on a suggestion I found on another website, I ran regsvr32 msxml3.dll (which is one
small step in the instructions for resetting Windows Update), and whether I ran the command prompt as administrator or just through my administrator account, I received the message: "The module msxml3.Dll was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed
with error code 0x80004005."
Could the missing file and this error help account for the failure of the "Fix it" solution? If so, what can I do about either?
Thank you,
