System Interrupts Huge CPU Usage

Thank goodness for Process Explorer which helped me find out the mystery process that was chewing up my CPU time!  Why the creators of Windows Task Manager can't see fit to put this process in the Task List is beyond me!

After doing a fresh computer mobo upgrade and install of XP x64, I too started experiencing this same problem after only a couple of weeks all with fresh drivers and very little perversion from the internet.  I even made sure I had all the latest security updates from Windows for XP x64 (Windows Server 2003) installed.

After pulling my hair out for two days re-installing various drivers, making sure video (Intel and Nvidia on a 2 screen setup) and audio were up to date, and making sure I had the latest Intel chipset drivers, turns out it was something very simple.

On another forum I found the suggestion to remove the EIDE drivers in Device manager and reboot to let Windows re-install everything.  Leave your chipset drivers installed for the ports.

It worked!  Just un-install all IDE ATA/ATAPI Primaries and Secondaries in Device Manager and reboot. 

My system has two primaries and two secondaries and I made sure all were un-installed.  Un-install the Secondaries first, then the Primaries to avoid the reboot message that will be thrown up right away.  If you have two Primaries, don't restart until you've un-installed the last one, even though the first one will still be in the list under Primary.  You will get a notice to reboot after each Primary un-install.  Don't reboot until you've un-installed the second Primary IDE. the first one will still be in the list under Primary.  You will get a notice to reboot after each Primary un-install.  Don't reboot until you've un-installed the last of the Primary IDEs.

My CPU usage on Interrupts has dropped from 25% (100% of core 0 on a 3.39 gHz Zeon i5 quad core) down to around 1% average.  The machine starts up faster and start up programs are populating at a full 50% to 75% faster and hard drive access is not slowing down my mouse and keyboard anymore.  Also, sound is now playing back without jittering all over the place.

The benefit of having experienced this unusual CPU usage issue has allowed me to explore other things on my computer that needed to be disabled to improve performance (desktop sharing, other services, etc.).  I'm just going to leave them disabled for now, since everything is working much better.

i got same problem you just install anti malware program and make full scan the program will resolve this issue

FIXED IT AT LAST!!!!!!

This problem has driven me nuts, I tried everything suggested in many forums and nothing worked!

The problem is with my slot loading DVD drive, with no disk inserted I get high interrupt usage, put a disk in and the interrupts return to normal.

Tried the same thing with a tray loading drive and experienced no issues with or without a disk inserted.
