System Interrupts Huge CPU Usage

Hi,

I have just recently installed Windows 7 Professional on my machine and I am having a problem with a process called System Interrupts using alot (25% approximately) of CPU.

I have tried several supposed fixes i have found here and on other forums but have not solved the issue.

I am at wits end.

My computer got so slow that the mouse was slow and jerky and I had to reboot. System interrupts was at about 30% CPU time. My PC is now with 5 days uptime and the bug seems to have disappeared. The following solution seems to solve the issue :

  1. Right-click on the speaker icon
  2. Select playback devices
  3. Click on the speaker properties
  4. Go to the enhancements Tab
  5. Click Disable All Sound Effects
  6. Click OK. You're done!

The sound enhancements seem for some reason to cause the problem even when not used. So disable them following the procedure above. Good luck!

    Solved it on my Windows 8 machine.  I just disabled USB legacy and USB 2.0 in my bios.

    I used xperf to discover USBPORT.SYS was causing high system interrupts.  Took a guess and went through BIOS to play with some stuff.  Seems to be working so far.

    Dan,

    Glad you found it.  I hope you didn't take my suggestions as being a wild goose chase.  Everyone's experience with this particular issue is slightly different.  When you think about it, the BIOS is sort of a kind of driver that controls the HDD controllers and other input, output devices.  So it was a driver, just not the obvious one!  Sorry for all the anguish, and I won't laugh at you, I too, have suffered at the hand of the mighty bit bucket we call computers.  I take away from your experience that it may not always be the obvious that causes these problems, as is so often the case.  Too often we stand back and look at all we did, only to see it as the "obvious" solution, but only because it was the "ultimate" solution, not the obvious one!  Hope that made sense!  BIOS updates are inherently dangerous, because one can toast a whole mobo without even trying, but if the computer is unusable as is, sometimes it's worth a shot!
