I just bought a new laptop hp pavilion dv6-2020ev with windows 7 premium home. Out of  nowhere the computer shuts down and restarts showing the blue screen that says DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and the bottom it says ndis.sys and restart and goes through the process again, again and again...

I could not start safe mode with networking. It does the same thing as above, but I can start in safe mode and here are the problem details.

Hi steve45321,

Welcome to Microsoft Windows Vista Community site.

This issue is mainly caused by the driver error which is installed for your LAN CARD / NIC (Network card)

The issue can be resolved by downloading and installing the latest drivers for the NIC from the manufacture’s website.

Note: You might need to download the latest drivers in a different computer and install it in the computer where the issue is present, and you must boot to desktop with Safe Mode Option and install the latest drivers for the NIC

Reference Link for how boot to desktop in Safe Mode.

Let me know if this worked.

Hope this is helpful.

    Hi asshorn,

The minidump files showed similar DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (d1) stop errors:

    BUCKET_ID:  X64_0xD1_NETIO!NetioAllocateAndReferenceCloneNetBufferList+32

The process that crashed in some of the crashes was the acs.exe so could you try uninstalling Outpost Firewall?

As an alternative you could try the following recent hotfix which will update the netio.sys:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2664888

There is a link at the top of the article to request the hotfix.

However it may be necessary to uninstall Outpost.

Hi there Auggy. Recently had the same problems with the BSOD and the ndis.sys showing up as the cause.

Just saw how you helped the people in the previous posts and just thought to ask if you could do the same for me!

Zipped the Dump into the link beneath.

    Thx on beforehand!

    Hi Anton.

The minidump file showed a DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (d1) stop error caused by the athrx.sys:

    BUCKET_ID:  X64_0xD1_athrx+84ae7

The athrx.sys, which is dated June 23, 2009, is a driver for an Atheros wireless adapter.

Which wireless adapter is installed and can you obtain a more recent driver?

Also, did you previously have installed a different wireless adapter?

Also, when did the problems start and did the start of the problems coincide with any hardware or software change?
