"Windows couldn't remove your computer from the homegroup."

I was having the same problem for a long time. I followed all the advice given here and still nothing. Well after awhile I decided to put my own skills to a test. I went into event viewer after a reboot to look for any errors and under systems there it was. The error that homegroup could not start. Check to see if a service is running called " Function Discovery Provider Host ". After I enabled this then I went back to the 2 homegroup services and started those and BINGO I was able to delete my PC from the homegroup. Hope this helps someone out there.

I had same problem and fund solution that worked for me .

Especially if you get access denied error when try start the Peer Networking Identity Manager

1. check group policy go to RUN type "gpedit.msc"

2.go to Computer Configuration then Administrative Templates then Network

then Microsoft Per-to-Per Networking Services

3.In Right Window Pane look for "Turn Off Microsoft Per-to-Per Networking Services"

If it is Enabled set it to Not Configured then try to start the service.

Because If you have that Enabled it will turn off Access to Enabling the Peer      Networking    Identity Manager Service.

Yeah you are right Mr Lake I am so fed up as you can see above ... I have seen your posts as well hundreds of others for this same problem. I am going back through again and try this one more time but I have the services set at auto right now... But first I have to go back and easy transfer a bunch of .obj files etc ... from work I have done on this machine as well my main Graphics program so if this **** kills my machine I have no problems in the outcome of it. Just a year of some lost items that I cannot transfer easily. Now it will actually network using easy transfer ... but well there is some things that will take a week to get transferred and I just thought since I am paying the extra cash for Microsoft I would have been able to do this easily. I am fluent in Linux based operating systems as well ... and with linux I would be done already.

So I need will need to migrate it all using easy transfer  I have hundreds of gigabytes worth of career related info on this machine ... ... Look this is the second time in 15 years of using Microsoft software etc that I have had to ask for support. And reality is I am not getting it ... I get some double agent for Geek Squad answering problems. Well I would never use Geek Squad ... Last time my buddy did he ended up coming to me for help as Geek Squad screwed up ...  This problem is the only one I am having with windows 7.  I have 4 other computers here and not a problem it all worked fine just one that I had used in another Homegroup. that will not let me leave ...   If I was the only one with this problem it would be another issue but I am finding hundreds as of just lately with this same problem.   By the way that is a common fix for Geek Squad ... do a reinstall ...   I have heard that for more people that tried Geek Squad and then I have fixed the problem and removed the virus, malware, trojan etc ..  for them where geek squad had them paying and arm and a leg so geek squad could push a few buttons.  The worst part is that I am migrating some of this to a work station and Pixologic a much smaller company making far less money provided me with a new download link actually step by step helped me with what I needed etc !   But to top it off I have had the same person for all my support with Zbrush. He is my personal support technician with Zbrush and that has been through 3 upgrades and one other migration from another machine.  I am so fed up with Microsoft I am hating the fact I went with them again. I should have chose linux or Mac osx seeing I am using for graphics etc  .. that would not be a bad choice.  But I just spent money on a new workstation and one of my other machines is totally useless now unless I remove hundreds of gigs and reinstall windows according to the Greek Squad ...   Well I refuse to take his advice I have seen there work before I want a Microsoft Tech atleast.
